Default Advice on Taking a Job

Hi all...

Been kind of scratching my head at a decision I need to make very soon.

Been offered work as a leasehand for 2 different companies - 1 large (Ensign) and 1 smaller company (TD Drilling).

I'm not sure which way to go. Both are camps jobs in Fort Mcmurray. Ensign is fly-in and fly-out. Ensign pays hourly (29.50 w/ 84 hours a week) while TD pays a flat $500 dayrate.

I have friends who work for each company and they both speak highly of their company. I'm just kinda worried that at Ensign you are just another number on another rig, which could be shut down at any moment, where as the smaller company, may offer fewer perks, but because its privately owned will be working pretty much year round, aside from the break up.

Any thoughts?

Smaller company, you'll make more money at $500/day.

Simple one.. 500 a day even at 16 hours= 31.25 or at 12 a day is 41.66, by far a better way to go

I'm sure you forgot to mention that with ensign you probably get a living allowance of $150/day or so... right?

Not if you are in camp they won't be paying you that much. I will not answer you question as I know the guys who own TD and I am bias.

Camp jobs are usually $85/day, but then you also get a premium for any fly in job, which could be anywhere from an extra $20-$70/day.

I'd wager the pay for both jobs is very very close.

That's a real straight, stand-up recommendation for your employer, Dragon1!
It's nice to see someone proud of their employer instead of whining and dissing them!!
