Proves he’s doing his part, especially if he’s on private land where he has permission in cattle country. After picking quills out of cows in 2 different pastures this summer, they don’t get a pass anymore. A few years ago we pulled 1400 quills out of 12 cows.

Default Buck in the wind

Second season, and second buck shot. This one is a lot bigger than the last one.

I was hunting a mountainous area in a unit where I have a muley tag. I decided to check out a different area with about 1 hour till sunset. Just as I got into the new area I started walking in with a strong crosswind blowing. I was just looking around, when I saw this funny log. Thought I should check it with the binos, and I was expecting it to be a log just like all of the other logs and rocks I had inspected with my binos. Hold on, it’s a deer. A big one! Just lying there chewing. I was only about 40ish yards away and it had no idea I was there cause of the wind. I shot it through the neck and it died immediately. What a rush. The hardest part was getting it into the back of my truck on my own.

Now we will see if I can fill my muley tag too.

Got a smoke pole this year to mess around with. After what turned out to be actually a fairly long and fun stalk with the kid in tow, I decided to pop my muzzleloader cherry with a jerky deer. Definitely going to pack it more and try to knock a few more things down, it’s a fun little gun.

Here's what I have had the good fortune to kill this year, dunno if I will be able to get out for an antlerless again before season's end , but I'm okay with that.

Thanks alder, it was a bit of a tough one for me, hunted pretty hard , and couldn't close the deal on a few opportunities, but it was sure exciting at times! LOL.
The mule deer was interesting , wind was so high he wasn't concerned with sdvc busting brush on his downwind 6 trying to push him into the open, and he didn't hear me walking in on the slope above him - it was an extremely close shot, 11 yards IIRC!
The white tail was an epic shot as well but almost complete opposite of the muley.
