Default Trail cam vandal

I've been hunting whitetail deer on the north side of the Medicine Lake road for about three weeks now,i had set a camera up on a nice scrape about five days ago.Things were looking good as there was a four point and five point working the branch above the scrape.Today i was shocked to find that my camera was gone, the cable lock was there in good working order, as for the camera all that could be found were the batteries, the metal battery conectors,sd card/menu setting door and about eight small pieces of plastic.Bummer

Check the Sd card, had more issues with four legged critters and even once a woodpecker.

Too bad though

Well clearly in this situation, the camera was deliberately smashed by a person, but it's possible 'Jethro's' pic is on the SD card and maybe you can identify the perp.

I've had cameras eaten by bears and one a bull moose rubbed the tree my camera was on.
But I always use the metal protective boxes on my cameras, and the cam the bear chewed, he could only bite the protective lens cover off the camera.
Amazing but I repaired that camera (old style Bushnell Trophy Cam) and it still works. That's like a 20 year old camera.

The cam that the bull moose rubbed, he mangled the metal security box, but that box protected the camera. It would have been destroyed without that box.

Trick to save your cams a little from bears, moose, and elk don’t tighten the strap completely tight. Put a small stick between the cam and tree to keep it in place. When an animal messes with the cam it will spin it around the tree or slide it down.

I don’t use any protective boxes and have never had a cam wrecked by an animal. I have one can with a tooth mark in it and another with some chew marks on the strap. I have been running around 15cams for a good number of years

When it comes to to people the only ways to avoid problems is avoid places that attract people. I don’t get people on cam very often and all my cams are on crown land. I don’t have issues but my buddy who runs around 6 cams a year has had multiple cams both broken and stolen in the last 3 years. I run a portion of my cams in the same WMU no issues one pic of a person

Sometimes this means passing up on areas that look good but will easily be noticed by other hunters

Either way I hope who ever smashed your cam trips falls and scewers their nut sack on a stick

I have 4 cameras and mount them high enough that they couldn't touch them from the back of a quad. It's a pain taking small light ladder with me, but better then losing another one. The ladder goes on my back and I carry it in, then just set it till I'm ready to pick it up on the way out.

Another option is 3 screw in tree steps Added bonus most 2 legged varmints don't look up that high either.

Correct , no card. I'm not sure what his initial intention was but he would have gotten his picture taken as he walked to the camera which was about about 20 feet off the trail. He could have just slid the door open and removed the card but instead he decided to smash the camera off the tree.I prefer to still hunt so i do see cameras as i'm moving around ,i just smile and wave as i pass by.
