I have been to Jamaica a few times, although I was just outside of Ocho Rios. I have tried the typical fishing charter, which was very comfortable and good for people that aren't good on open water. That said, we didn't catch a thing. In fact, I had to point out a strike to the First Mate as he didn't really seem to be to into the fishing.

The resort set us up with a couple of local "fish hunters". These dudes pull up in what was effectively a big canoe. It had a 40 hp motor on it that had to be at least 40 years old. Their downriggers were long branches from a tree. Now I am a pretty calm guy and very comfortable on the water, but I do admit as we pulled away from the resort that I thought this is a bad idea. We fished for 3 hours and. . .nothing. Nada. Not even a hit. I figured they were going to fleece me for more money. Instead, they were so embarassed, they took me out the next day for free. That day I caught a couple of bonitas (which were awesome fighters), one of which got attacked by a baracuda on the way to the boat and a yellow fin tuna. I don't have any pictures of these, but it was awesome. The resort cooked the tuna for my wife and I for dinner.

Not sure that is any help to you. Good luck!

Cheers.

My wife & I went to Ocha Rios in November & I caught a 230 lb blue marlin with one of the locals in a big canoe, we went out 20 miles & used a hand line. I t was insane & so much fun, There is a tournament class charter in M ontego bay, deepseafishing@cwjamaica.com, I was going to use Charlie but we were to far away, Go fishing & good luck
Merry Xmas

That looks exactly the same as the boat I went in, except the motor in your pic is about 25 years newer. We only went 12 miles out. . .maybe that is why I didn't can a beauty like you did. Well done.

I would do it again in a heartbeat and stay away from the big charters.

Cheers.
