That pic keeps floating around

Seems members of a club that look after that particular pond have been chasing that pike for yrs. Been caught a few times but always released to let it keep getting bigger and bigger.

One huge pike for sure.

I've seen so many pictures of pike caught all over the UK over the years that are huge.

The UK waters have abundant soft finned prey for the Pike. They can grow big and fat. Also they are always released to grow larger.

Pike fishing is definitely is respected a lot more in the UK and some other parts of Europe too. Pike are valued a lot more leading to a different mindset of the fishermen and management

Those guys have a whole tournament series that revolves around catching and releasing minnows... I would say that the UK mindset in regards to fishing is pretty unique worldwide.

The UK definitely seems to hold all species of fish to a higher standard. Targeting course fish is very popular too

Japanese is another culture with some interesting approaches to fishing. They also do the micro fishing

Next weekend, bacon wrapped pike!

I've seen big ones but never that fat. She's definitely not starving.

Another key factor is their climate, in general not terribly hot for long periods, but not cold enough to ice over for any length of time either. It would be pretty hard to think of a region that provides a longer growing season for coolwater species.

Different class of fish, but a similar build and caught in an Alberta lake post spawn...
When they shut down the commercial fishing in Lesser Slave there was a notable increase in the girth/ length ratio after only 2-3 years. To me that UK fish looks weird, but if they can get chunky up here given enough food then in far more fertile UK waters, and with a much longer growing season, I'd imagine that a 40" pike typically outweighs its NA counterpart by quite a bit.

Germany has bigger pike. This pike is 10 lbs. heavier than the one in the picture. This one is 55 lb. 1 oz. and 53 inches long.
