Looks like I have to sell my recurve.
Drawing isn't the issue, just can't hold it at full draw for 5-20 seconds anymore.
Used to duct tape a chemical heating pack across my shoulder. Doesnt help anymore.

Yea well...

A simple thing like worn out shoulder or a twisted back don't make it all ok.

There is no reason you can't keep on helping others and pass on your knowlage
through words and wisdom.

To just quit and give in is wrong. You know this.

You above many others have much, much more to give.
You have already done so. We all have seen it.

But a bum shoulder is no reason to quit.

Niel you can't begin to know just how many people you have helped
and look up to you.

Trust me, don't stop now, there are many more who still look to you
for words of wisdom.

Me too.

You've always kind of been like modern day Fred Bear to me.
I think a few others may have felt the same.

I was not able to draw even a 15 pound bow for years due to shoulder/neck nerve damage.
Just getting back into it now, but am good for only a few shots with the 40 pounder before things go to hell.
I know three really good traditional archers who had to go right off for a few years then started back with super light bows.
None of them shoot as nearly as heavy as they used to , but are almost as accurate as they were before they were injured.
They can still put a deer on the ground however with the first shot....

Don't know if anyone else has posted the following advise. I too have had shoulder issues recently.
Every Albertan is allowed 3 free visits to a physiotherepist, no referral necessary, every year. Went to one and he told me I had Adhesive Capsulitis commonly called "frozen shoulder". He showed me some simple excerises to help loosen up the shoulder, and also attached electric suction caps around the affected muscles which helped loosen them up.
Shoulder is much better though I still have some issues. Might be worth a trip for you, since it's free, and you might get some tips on excercises to do at home. Good luck.
It's not fun getting old.

Several Alberta archers with arm and shoulder issues have experienced Shockwave Therapy in Edmonton with amazing success. Some were able to avoid surgery altogether and are back shooting their bows with no down time.

I had some shoulder issues a few years back, several cortisone shots in each one due to stupidity in my younger years. Fortunately I have not had to have surgery yet. One thing that helped me was a long piece of surgical tubing to stretch here and there, it was very low poundage but enough to give the ol' muscles a decent flex and get the blood moving to them. Sure helped get the muscle built up again to the point where i could shoot comfortably. I also dropped the poundage down to about 60, and even 58 for a brief stint. It helped. Even now I only shoot at 65 lbs. The days of 70 - 80 are gone. I figured I didn't really need it that bad anyway, especially after I tagged a doe shooting 58.

I also have shoulder issues. I had ripped it out of the socket in a bike crash years ago, which renders me unable to draw a bow (hence the usage of a crossbow with permit). I recommend using a T.E.N.S machine. They work by blocking the pain signals by transmitting pulses along the nerves. No drugs, no dopiness, and you can wear the thing under your clothing. They are also cheap and I believe covered by insurance plans.
