Productive Shore fishing near Edmonton for kids

Looking for a quick afternoon out. I'd like to ask for some advice finding productive shore fishing for a 10 yr old near Edmonton.

Don't have the luxury of a boat, so shore is a must. Thanks for the pointers!

Sorry for not thinking of this question before... How do the trout from Hermitage pond taste? I don't have the first clue what they should taste like, so I don't want to be in for a rude surprise. I understand that the fish are small, should I just keep 1 to practice cleaning on and not worry about the eating part?

the fish at herm. taste fine and that goes for almost all the stocked lakes and ponds around edm. to remove any "muddy" taste soak the fillets in milk for a day or two covered with saran wrap in fridge. keep in mind that you will be catching very small fish at herm. so there harder to clean. bring some bread along to feed the geese, kids love that.

Don't keep them unless you intend to eat them. At this time of year with them being recently stocked they're pretty tiny...not really worth the effort of cleaning them unless you're *really* bent on cooking some up.
