Snow is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy your time out in the bush and best of luck to you. 2 weeks hunting deer, I'm jealous.

Cheers,
SS

We have only seen the smaller bucks out and about around here, and none on any of the cameras either. Not really surprised though I have been hunting this area for about 50 years and now that I live here again we are out a lot from Sept 1 on. Within 2-3 days of Nov 21 regardless of weather is when the big boys start showing up.

Got one nice buck about a 150 back in September on one of the cameras but haven't seen him since, everything else has been smaller ones.

Going for 3 days looking for whitetails in the bush this long weekend! Hope it snows again on Friday so I can see all the fresh tracks. :-)

Good luck with your hunt!

Matt

No rut here yet in 500
Small bucks are still together
Rattled yesterday and brought 3 small ones up to me about 10 yards away from me.They all stood there starring at me qurious as heck then walked away and started to graze. Noticed that all the deer are really in a feeding frenzie this year

I spend lots of time at work thinking about hunting after guiding for 25 years and hunting for forty I usually go out maybe one or two days out of the week when I'm at the cabin if I feel like it ,if the weather is just perfect but this year everything's feeling good so maybe I'll hunt 4 days lol.

Are you guys referring to the “Hunters Rut” or the “Biological Rut”?

There’s a huge difference.

The “Hunters Rut” will vary greatly depending on herd dynamics, food sources, herd heirarcy, predators, and pressure.

The “Biological Rut” happens at the same time every year, give or take a few days.(photoperiodism)

So don’t expect what one guy is seeing in reference to the “Hunters Rut” to be the same as your piece of paradise.

The rut in my area starts at 4:38 pm on Nov 10 this year. I’ve got my week booked off.

Correct. But I do like hunter reports . Bucks are rutting hard in Lac La Biche north side of the lake. Full on dumb and chasing does with noses to the ground. Buddy got a nice 5x5 yesterday.

Deer are rutting in 500, 501, 502, 514 where I spend my time. Starting to see the 3 1/2 year old's moving around later in am too. The big boys are still mostly nocturnal, but that will change any day now.
