Default Switching barrels

So I have a barrel off of a model 98 Mauser large ring. I also have a model 96 Mauser rifle. Which I believe is a small ring. Is it possible to have a gunsmith unscrew the barrel from the 96 action and screwing the 98 barrel right in? Is the thread pitch etc the same? I’m aware the action may not work with different cartridges. I’m only asking about switching barrels. Thanks for any info.

Have to recut threads and tenon length 96 has a 12tpi x .980 and 98 LR has 12tpi x 1.100
In both the thread pitch can vary some 55 degrees some 60
Many produced and many manufactures so dimensions can vary a bit

Its doable but not without some work
