Exclamation Luck was with us. Boat engine is done

Complete drop in- 4 bolts, align engine to gimbal, reattach leg, connect 74000 hoses, wires, plugs............

And yes, garage is in the process of being cleaned

Ditto! Wish I could be there to help you out, but you don’t need an old yokel hanging around farting and drinking your scotch while you’re skinning your knuckles.

Looking real good. A bit fiddly to connect all the hoses and wires but outside that should be an easy install. Kind of interested to hear what was actually wrong with the old one.

Piece of cake for a man of your skills Ken. What could possibly go wrong?

Good luck Ken! Thats an amazing looking engine, I hope you don't find any further problems as you delve into this. Looking forward to pictures of the R&R stages as you progress.

The bright side is, you will have a new engine to last you for years to come ..... bad news is, this is the part where you end up replacing every cracked hose, line, harness and putting 1000 miles on your truck running in and out of town to get $3 worth of parts .... 26 times.

Too far, much more convenient to do a 20 hour break-in parked outside the local Fire Hall. Neighbors won’t mind

And don't forget to put oil in it.

The oil filter looks like its in a great, easy to change location!

Enjoy aligning it to the transom mount/sterndrive. When I did a motor swap that was probably the biggest pain.

Thanks guys.

Hastings huh? Nah, its a quiet beast.

I talked to another mechanic buddy, he says these engines are notorious for top end ticks on oil changes, before we yank it out tomorrow I am going to run it up again, see if the tick goes away and take video of the engine running. On the stand over winter I will go further into it.

I am ok if it ticks or doesn't, it does not owe me a penny and I love the idea of a new mill. If all is good and the leakdown/compression tests are good it will be an easy sale.

Many pics to follow if all goes good. Or bad.

When you have the old engine yarded out, make sure that every hose and preferably clamp is changed. Take an hour and inspect every inch of the wiring harness too. If it’s abraded badly, crunchy from heat, melted, etc. Now is the time to replace/repair it. A new mill is only as good as the power wire that feeds it. 😀
