Default Lake Canoe Fishing - Day Trip from Edmonton

We are planning on doing a couple of day-trips from Edmonton this long wknd. with my canoe. I want to fish smaller lakes because our canoodling skills aren't the greatest. I plan on fishing trout one day but would like to find a good pike or perch lake the second day. I was thinking Devil's lake because I know it a bit but have never been able to find the perch in the summer time. Any advice? How is this Coal Lake that I hear about? .. and does it get rough in the wind?

Thanks

I would recommend Star Lake (just west of Stony Plain) for the trout lake. Maybe try Jackfish Lake (also just west of Stony Plain) for jack and walleye. You have to get there early as it can get quite busy. You do have to pay to park/launch at Jackfish.
