Default Weird computer qusestion

Asked a couple of people, but no one seems to have an answer for me and I barely know how to push the buttons. Just happened again. I'll be sitting here, minding my own business, when the thing makes a strange noise, best described as a bullet or meteorite passing overhead. No holes anywhere, so that can't be it. My best guess is it's warning me that the anti virus system has detected a threat or someone is trying to breach the firewall. I'm all ears, guys.

I've never heard a meteorite so I have no idea what they sound like.

Was it a software generated sound, IE came through the speakers, or a hardware generated sound, like a fan hitting something?

I'm thinking maybe a drive going bad. If it were software, IE a virus warning, it should be a bell or chime type sound.

Hard rives turn at an incredible speed these days. When their bearings start to go dry the can make whistling type noises.

Is your cell phone receiving a text when it happens? My cell phone when receiving a text makes a funny noise through the speakers.

your power supply might be going. Easy fix, easy install, about 35 bucks, or it might be your fan, same fix though

Probly the hard drive as stated before. Back up your importante info that you want to keep on a disc or two and run it till it dies. Dont buy a new hard drive, just get a new computor.

Hard drives don't have any components that could possibly making a sound such is a meteorite, and when they go.. They go there is no warning,
My guess is eighther you have your speakers up way too high and your enabling your hot keys by hitting shift too much, or if it's coming from the fan or machine, and it's making a huge noise, something is terribly wrong with something inside,
Eighther the fan or power supply, In wich case, you'd better get fixxed before it burns down your house,

My apple products, ie Iphone and Mac, have a sound that sounds like a small jet going overhead. They make this sound when an email has been sent. It is changeable if you go into the toolbar and choose a different setting. Much like changing the ring tone or incoming alert tones. It's called "swoosh" on my Iphone. The wife doesn't like apple products, she prefers PC. Every time she hears the sound, she's asking "What the he$$ was that"?
Just my 2 cents.

I would buy an external hard drive and clone your existing hard drive. It's not hard to do and the new drive should have instructions on how it's done. Whatever is going wrong will need to be fixed and usually they wipe your hard drive clean. If you have a copy it's another easy job to put it back in your computer after the repair.

The Movie sound. Loud kind of hissing that rises and then falls, From the speakers. Very short and random, only happens occasionally. No pop ups on the screen or anything to go with it. I'm guessing it's got to be some kind of notification.

How are you hooked to the internet? I use a aircard and it makes that kind of sound when the aircard drops the signal.

you would be much better off going to a computer forum and asking for assistance, for some reason I don't think an outdoors forum is gonna get you very good advice haha.

What it also could be is if you have your cell phone to close to the speakers, mine does it and it picks up some interference from when the cell phone is receiving a signal from either a text or phone call and then the speakers make a loud short humming signal.

Sounds to me like cellular interference, but without being there I can't really say. Once in a blue moon, I’ll have a client that gets morse code sounding beeps and buzzing going on through their speakers. I could see this happening with an air card, especially in a laptop where the speakers are turned up. This specifically happened with old cell phones and air cards, so it may make sense for you to get an upgrade if this is the case.

You’ll find 2.4GHZ cordless phones will do this, along with old-as-the-forest microwaves that have bad shielding.

With respect to the comments regarding hardware failure, I would say that this doesn’t exactly sound like the case. I’d recommend backing your laptop up though, if only because the hardware gods will nail you just for thinking about them.

Good luck!
