Default 200km/hr high speed chase in Canmore this morning

http://www.albertapolicereport.ca/20...with-injuries/

This happened just down from our house. Saw the accident crew when I left for work at 6:00am. If anyone is familiar with the Three Sisters Exit 93, the guy was heading east and blew through the exit to Three Sisters and hit the hill between the parkway exit and the HWY 1 on-ramp. From the way the SUV was seeded into the hill, it looks like he caught air after hitting the parkway road and the front end was the first to make contact. Amazing no one was killed. Hope they have enough to charge this guy. He runs away from the scene leaving 4 people in the car. Classy.....

You see the comment from Sheila Stelmaschuk?

Maybe time to start lobbying car manufacturers to limit the speed of passenger vehicles - who needs all that horsepower!!
People like this are our worst enemies. Imagine what she'd say about the shooting in Edmonton the other day.

I noticed that comment too, and a heck of a lot of vehicles can achieve 200 km/h, its not really much of a benchmark at all; that's 124 mph. Bone stock cars have been going that fast since the 1960's (though considering their lousy tires, splashy handling and crappy brakes they probably shouldn't have).

That being said, what a wanker the driver was to bail on his passengers, or to drive so poorly and dangerously with them along for the ride in the first place.

Pickups and most SUV's are already speed limited by the manufacturer to around 160 kph or 99 mph or so due to the speed rating of the tires they are equipped with.
