Default Anyone reload .308Win or .270WSM in Edmonton?

Hey gang,

Does anyone in Edmonton reload .308Win and care to share your knowledge/ reloading dyes? I would be happy to buy the powder, casings, bullets and whatever else is required. I've never reloaded before and am curious as to how it's done.

Just bought a Browning BAR in .308 and was hoping to do some inexpensive shooting with it. Didn't know factory ammo was almost as expensive as my .270WSM. If you could help me reload for either and share some expertise it would be greatly appreciated

Where is the best place in Edmonton to get it from? or to order from? I'm not confident in my rifle cleaning abilities so I would prefer non-corrosive.

Default cheap .308

Cabela's and Wal-Mart for starters. Federal Blue box or Fusion. Winchester Power-max Bonded @ Wal-Mart! Westend was picked over last time I was there.

Those all still work out to over $1.00 per bullet. I'm pretty hurting for funds right now and was hoping to do this the cheapest way possible. If anyone would be willing to help me out that would be awesome.

You're saying 308 factory ammo is cheaper than reloads, you are wrong!

Thanks for the advice. I may just buy a few boxes of factory to sight the rifle in until I can afford to take up the hobby of reloading.

If you have to buy all new components including brass then factory rounds are indeed cheaper than hand loading.

Then you'll have some components left over such as powder which you didn't use for your brass and bullets that you bought further driving up the money invested in those rounds until you load some more.

Your initial investment in hand loading needs to be so high that you might as sell have bought 8 boxes if factory ammo.

It's a dirty secret. Handloading is cheaper if you have used brass and if you need a lot of ammo and have already written off all the equipment as a 'recreational' expense.

100 brass for 308 is about $58 locally.

100 of the cheapest bullets possible is about $30

1lb of powder is maybe $28

Primers are $3.50

That's about $120 for 100 rounds. Not economical at all.

You'll also want to pick up some small base dies for that bar.

So, it's not the first hundred rounds where you save money. It's the second, third and fourth, sometimes up to 10 firings on that initial 100 brass where you start saving money over the factory load. Might want to just buy factory unless you're really serious about loading. I have loaded since I was 14, it's a lot of fun and I get to see a new rifle perform very quickly, I'm just concerned about all the leftover boxes of bullets I have acquired over 40 + years. It will take a very serious effort to alleviate the mountain of bullet boxes I have in my basement!
