Default Fixed 3 or 4 power or red dot for up close

I am a bit torn between what to pick to top off my 375h&h since its going to be for within 150yds i don't see myself shooting past 150yds maybe 200yds with it.

If i go to a red dot im going to get one with a 3 power

If i get a scope it will be a 3 or 4 power fixed

Also trying to find rings that will flip to the side

Trijicon makes a beautiful 1-4 with the chevron post. A little pricey but very nice glass, and reticle.

And a FXII 4x would never be a wrong choice either.

I'd go fixed 4, or 1-4x. I took a nice kudu in SA at 260yds with a 375 H&H. Very capable cartridge, and I'm now looking for a new one haha.

Red dots are nice to shoot with but a huge pain in the butt id go low power scope any day on a hunting rifle no on/off switch and no batteries to worry about i have a little leupold 1-4 i love on my old enfield very quick on target for close quarry

2x8 with illuminated reticle. A 375 shoots lots flat enough to go to 400 yards, and if you are shooting at night or late evening the illuminated reticle is VERY handy. I used Leupold QD mounts. The scope will also accept a shooting light mount.

I have a couple of big bores and so far the 1.5x4.5 looks good. A nice wide field of view, a not too high line of sight, I don't see a need to change.

No experience with Trijicon, but do with Eothech (Bushnell Holosight) and Aimpoint T1. I have also have 1.5 - 4 magnification scope. Comments

I much prefer the RD to retical for bush as I have found the latter is sometimes hard to acquire among leafless branches. No trouble picking up a red dot. The red dot is also natural to both eyes open, even for those who have trouble transitioning to both eyes open from their traditional dominant eye habit.

The EOtechs are clunky design for a hunting rifle. Aimpoint Micro H/T models are compact, light, reliable at hunting temperatures to -30C.

I think the red dots need a separate magnifier, and frankly, I would not use one. I did some "testing" with my unmagnified 2MOA dot Aimpoint...shooting a five shot group at 100M and 300M each day for 15 days. 100M agg was 1.2" and 300M agg was 6". I did wear my glasses

Obviously, I would recommend the Aimpoint with a 2MOA dot.

I'd just run a 2-7 or 2.5-8X. But I like the versatility of a variable. Some don't.

I have an Aimpoint Pro on a 223 without any magnification. I shoot coyotes with it to 200 yards but that is max. It has a 2 moa dot on full power. Dialed down the dot gets smaller as the intensity is reduced and I have even been able to consistently hit gophers out to 175 yards with it. On big game it would be a very good sight in my opinion out to 200 -250 yds but beyond that you’d be pushing it. I have held it on deer and moose for reference purposes and feel it would work without issue. One thing that is nice is if your eye is not perfectly aligned with the sight where unlike a scope as long as you can see the dot you are good to go. Put the dot on target and shoot. It shoots true to the dot no matter how poorly your eye alignment may be. The PRO is designed so it can be turned on and left on from day one with a three year battery life. I like mine. Handy as can be for fast acquisition and running targets and being an old school shotgunner I like that it works great with both eyes open. Aimpoint makes hunting doecific models as well.

In addition to being clunky, my Bushnell Holisight has only a 1MOA dot which is pretty small. The 2MOA is a perfect size IMO. Mounting the optic as far forward on the action is probably best. Estimating holdover is tougher with a RD than reticle.
RDs are great for tracking a moving animal.

Aaaahhhh, my first post on AO and on one of my favorite topics, scopes and big bores. It's all a matter of personal choice and $$$ but FWIW, I had one of Burris's first 3X9's on a 375 H&H AI and it held it's zero even after several hundred rounds, but I think there are other choices for a big bore. I had a Leup. VX111 on my Bill Leeper built 416 Rigby and it gave a huge field of view on up close targets. Scope never gave any problems. I think the reason the scope never shifted under heavy recoil is Bill machined in two cross bolts in the ring bases to stop any movement. Currently I have a Vortex 1X6 24mm Strike Eagle w/ 30mm rings on a 450 Rigby and it gives a really, really wide field of view down at 1X. The adjustable illuminated hooded reticle and center cross hair draw the eye directly to the center of the scope immediately and quickly place it on target. Twelve full throttle rounds through the gun and the scope hasn't come apart and it has held its zero. Touch wood!

My 375 will be lucky if i shoot it at 300yds and 6" at 300yds is good enough for me since its not going to be for hunting paper and most things it will be fired at will be coming for me not running away
