Default 250 Savage

One of my older neighbours in the community asked me if I was interested in buying a small caliber rifle so I asked what it was. He told me it was full stock Ruger in 250-3000. Looked at it and the stamp said 250 Savage which I learned was the same.... Have had it for a few months and decided to take it out to the range yesterday and shoot it. Heavy trigger and a bit windy as usual but it grouped decently (1-2 inch) with the older 4x Redfield it came with. Nothing exceptional for wood but the long stocked wood just looks like fall! The next thread on here inquiring on a cartridge for a youth or small framed person should have the 250 Savage suggested. Rifle is 38" long with a 18" barrel and is a very mild recoiling combination. I like using something different each fall for my Whitetail deer tag and I am happy to have this one for 2017.

Congrats on your find. I like those full stocked Rugers and that caliber as well.

Sweet find

I have an old savage model 99 takedown that i adore. Sadly the twist on those old savages is so slow it wont stabalize a premium bullet

Win 760/mag primer and 100gr bullets is your friend[no 250 I've ever had liked the 100gr Hornady] Get some Hornady dies as they have a more tapered expander button and make FL sizing new 22-250 brass into .250 Savage easy with no loss....I'm running a 700 Classic.........Harold

It's a over achiever for sure. Light recoil , accurate , and velocities are suprizingly fast for the size of cartridge .

I had one in a Ruger #1 and could shoot Barnes x 100 gr, Win 760 at 3150 fps

Beauty rifle, and a sweet calibre too. I've been tossing around the idea of trying to find one of those for a bush rifle. My main rifle is a regular 77, having a shorter RSI for hunting brush would keep everything nice and familiar when switching between the two.

I have an 1899 Savage take down as well in 250-3000. Love the cartridge. Hate the stupid slow twist 1-14". Think I might turn my Model 11 22-250 into a 250 Sav. with 1-10" or 1-11" twist then buy another 22-250.

Default 1-14 twist

Too bad Partitions aren't made in 85gr.Most will shoot the shortest 100gr with 30gr/IMR 3031 ,that would be the Speer bullet.Harold
