Not Alberta, I found out through my father that way back we had one of our ancestors marry a Native woman from the Lake Ni****ing area of northern Ontario. I have her Indian name, but would like to find out more about the whole thing.
For some reason the forum will not allow me to print the whole spelling, so I will spell it with spaces in between. Lake N i p i s s i n g.

Also, you live in Edmonton...there is a Metis Nation of Alberta office in town....they could probably give you some help getting information. At one time they were near the downtown airport.

They also have a genealogist who does the membership who would probably be able to help.

In my experience they are not what they used to be. 10 years ago they were very helpful but in the last couple of years they just have too many people knocking on their door and government paperwork to push.

I would recommend starting at the Provincial Archives of Alberta; next stop would be the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton. PM me if you want contact names.

Thanks for your responses folks, I will begin my search in the archives and here in Edmonton. I just want to find out how much Native influence I have in our family history. Our earliest records show our arrival to Canada in the very early 1600's. One of my ancestors is Jean Nicolet the explorer. I have always been interested in genealogy but just never have the time.
