Default 9.5 camper on short box.

I have a 9.5 Big foot truck camper that is made for a 8ft box.
It worked great on my 3/4 ton long box until it got stolen.
It only weights 1500 empty

Since I can't find any New trucks with 8 ft beds
Was thing of buying a 1 ton HD3500 GMC short box (6.5 bed)
And placing my camper on it.

Any one else doing this ? How does it handle

You like driving down the road, looking at the sky? Still lots of used commercial trucks with an 8' box to be found for a song.

You have to check if the center of gravity will be in front of the rear axle. If it is you can do it. But it would probably be necessary to add air bags to even things out

FWIW i had a autobody shop cut out (cope) and re fiberglass the wheel well sections back in on my bigfoot. looked factory and lost minimal storage space and slid right in as normal on a short box. Buttt... Mine was a 8' thou not 9.5 so it may not be a option. I had little trouble selling because it fit a short box...they're great lite campers goodluck chain
