"im pretty sure your not allowed to use a canoe. only motor boats can go in that lake."

Not motorized boats are legal on Minnewanka. We fish it by kayak all the time, and there's a couple of people who use rowboats.
Just be aware that high winds can come up in a hurry on that lake.

With this long winter that we had here in Alberta, does anyone think the ice will be off of Minnewanka by the May long weekend?

Wapiti Sports in Canmore has a good selection of bismuth tube jig heads and many other lures for Minnewanka.
