Default Chickakoo lake Dec 7

Went out fishing at Chickakoo today for about an hour until sunet. I got one bit , the fish took my bait. I was wondering how to stop your worms from freezing or does it matter to the fish? I heard they would take the bait if its dead.

Ya I was there most of the day.4 rainbow and 2 brookies. Saw lots on the fish tv but they just weren't bitting.Wish I could find somewhere around spruce/stony plain that has maggots.I talked to another guy that was out there and he was using meal worms and seemed to have good luck.

When i fly fish that lake in the summer they loved small bloodworms which could easily be duplicated with a small piece of worm

They where also all over my leech patterns, so i would imagine a piece of the real thing would be dynamite

My 2 cents for what it's worth!

Put the worms in your underwear, they hold in texture and hold up great in cold weather that way they wont freeze.

I picked up a small thermos bottle with the wide mouth - the kind designed for soup/stew - for about $4 or $5. It is compact and keeps the worms from freezing.

Beach corner has maggots, and you can pick up some "fireball" antifreeze around the corner. Now that Wab is good to go, I think my trout fishing will be limited.

I think Thundercatcher may be a touch young to purchase the Fireball antifreeze!

I'm not a big cinnamon fan...I prefer Blue 100 myself

Ill stop by the Husky in Stony, and talk to the owner if hes there today. He generally stocks them, but the demand is often more then what he stocks. Its been hit or miss there over the years. If theres any there, Ill let guys know on this thread. Beach Corner is usually a good bet. I don`t know if Spring Lake Store or Mink Lake store either in the winter.

Considering it winterkilled last season, and all the trout in there were stock just this spring, and few if any grew to be monstrous... maybe small minnows and pieces of shrimp? Maybe go out there experiment?

Go "fishing"!

A small piece of shrimp on the hook will work and it's easy to keep a few from a shrimp ring in a zip lock bag. I'm going to try some left over minnows that I have as well, or at least pieces of then if they are a bit bigger. The trout in there are about 10" or so.

Hopefully, tonight I can let you know how they taste. Trout don't ever taste super-mega gross to me but I don't eat them when the algae is as thick as soup either though.
