Default Challenging the trappers license test.

Hello,

I'd like to try my hand at snaring coyotes this coming winter. I need to get my trappers license first.

How difficult is challenging the test? Does anybody have a copy of the trappers book to study for the test that they'd like to sell? I have the trapping regulations booklet but I understand half of the test is laws and rules, the other half is knowledge of the animals and the traps to catch them.

Thanks for the help.

Eric.

You in Edmonton area? You could swing by and borrow my book. Not a bad idea to have your own though.

Thanks for the offer Steve. I'm south near Medicine Hat though. I would like to have my own though, and I'd rather buy the book and not borrow it. If I can't find one second hand I'll buy a new one.

Did you challenge the test? If so, how was it?

Hey Eric, Being as where you are, you might check with the local F&W people. They might be able to direct you to an ATA local person, who in turn could prob fix you up with a manual. I would much rather buy one and be able to reference it from time to time, instead of having to return it. It is invaluable...

There is no local down there. The Calgary and Coleman locals were inactive, so a new club, the South Country Trappers was formed last fall. We are not yet an ATA affiliate. I think you will have to contact the ATA and get the manual from them.

I challenged the test. It's not that hard but you definantly want to study the book first.

Thanks everybody. I'll contact the ATA and purchase a book. Study it and the regulation booklet and try my hand at the challenge.

Hello again,

I bought a new copy of the book from the ATA. I'm going to look it through front to back.

Could anybody give me a heads up on some of the questions asked on the exam and areas I should concentrate more on?

Thanks again.

You will find a couple questions from each section of the book. Brush up on the tracks if your not fimilar. Read the whole book, you will benefit later on when you get out in the field.

Well,

I read through the whole ATA trappers education book, twice. Read the trappers regs I don't know how many times while in the bathroom.

Went and challenged the test today, and passed with 88%.

I'm pretty happy about this. Look out yotes!
