Default Marten slowdown in December???

My marten were very active and easy to trap in mid November. I have moved to a new location with lots of tracks but marten are very hard to trap....same scent and beaver bait....same boxes and traps. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? The new area was not trapped in the last few years. Last year I also found mid November to be the best for production.

Marten you catch in mid november are mostly juvies dispersing. did they look young to you? When you have lots of marten sign and they're not going into your boxes take a look at your setup. If you're not set exactly on their tracks move your sets right on top of them. if all your sets are vertical sets on trees try horizontal poles or leaning poles.

Personally i think you caught the young ones and now you have mature martens moving around their territory. There's no way they won't check your sets out eventually. In January they start getting real hungry and your catch rate will go up. good luck
