Default FOUND AN ANSWER (delete if you feel like it)

Well bubba, you are right! It is a racing pigeon. I have contacted the canadian pigion racing union to hopefully find the owner and see if they want the bird back. SInce two got away from me during training and this one may be going to the original home, guess im back outta town getting more lol

I thought it was always cool when I'd go out with gramps, we drive like a 100 km, to where the race starts put the band on bird and be sitting on the porch with gramps and be there when the bird came home, and he would put the band in the time clock.....that was geez 30 yrs ago when we still lived in ont....was kinda cool at gramps funeral a few yrs ago, I get a box un pack it and it was the racing clock...would have never thought it ment to much to gramps me always tagging along asking him a million questions, like a 10yr old kid does....

Bands are used on lots of birds for lots of reasons.

Year hatched. Blood lines. Racing (as mentioned) & more.

Good on you for trying to locate the owner, if it's a racing bird.

Just asked my son this yesterday. His wife has a couple of pet "doves". Color indicates the year of birth.
