Default Dodge truck recall

Heard on the radio that dodge is recalling over 699,999 trucks since 03.

There Is a problem with the steering linkage.

Sorry Calgary Dave, I don't have a link. I'm on my phone

I know one Auctioner that ended up not Making a turn this year.ended up in a field and had to be towed out.

Take care out there.

Oh I thought that was just the way Dodges were supposed to handle.

I was riding in a dodge truck that belonged to a woman who I thought was a magician.................... She turned into a motel. Nothing to do with here steering.

Some guys will drive into a field to run over a coyote you know.

Chrysler is recalling about 1.2 million Ram trucks to fix front-end problems that could lead to steering troubles.
The company announced three recalls on Friday. It wants to inspect the trucks and says only 453,000 will likely need repairs.
Chrysler said Friday in a statement that it knows of six crashes and two injuries involving the 2008 to 2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks that are being recalled, and one crash with no injuries from the other recalled models.
The trucks are being recalled because tie-rod ends in the steering system may have been installed improperly, which Chrysler says stemmed from technicians misinterpreting instructions. Those tie-rods could be out of alignment, which Chrysler says can lead to steering failures.
The company has since updated the instructions and the parts involved.
Customers to be notified by mail next month
The first case covers 842,400 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks from 2003 through 2008. Chrysler says 116,000 were repaired with tie-rods in the steering system that could be out of alignment.
The other two involve trucks with tie-rod assemblies that were replaced in previous recalls. They cover 294,000 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks from the 2008 through 2012 model years, and 2008 Ram 1500 four-by-four mega cabs. Also included are 43,000 Ram 4500 and 5500 four-by-four chassis cabs from 2008 through 2012.
Customers will be notified by letter in December, and work could begin in January, the company said. Owners of Ram 4500 and 5500 models can take their trucks to dealers for interim repairs because parts may not be available until late next year, the statement said. The interim service would involve realignment of the front ends.
Chrysler said about 968,000 of the affected trucks are in the U.S., with another 157,000 in Canada, 37,100 in Mexico and 18,000 from other countries.
Owners with questions can call (800) 853-1403.

Can't believe how narrowly I missed this! I have a 2007 1500 Megacab, I don't see anywhere that mine is included in the recall. Better take a look at the steering linkage just to be safe…

I work for a major oil company and we quit buying Dodges over a year ago because of the front end problems being a safety concern.

I was serious. The auction truck didn't make the turn at the intersection.
Straight into the field.
Had to get a service call at the auction.
The mechanic fixed it while the auction continued.

I notice he is driving a gm this fall.

People remember the Pinto stuff, yet recalls of this nature far exceed anything the Pinto went through.

A year from now the death Dodges will be forgotten.....

I think the real problem is summed up nicely in this picture...

so for you techs out there what is the new way of putting on tie rod ends that they are talking about. I changed all the tie rods in my 06 front end and during the process I found the previous owner had already upgraded to an 09 front end that still got the death wobble. I changed the track bar bushings that seemed to help get rid of the wobble. Anyway after changing everything in the front end I do not have the death wobble anymore but for how long and did I install something wrong.

I had my 03 in for steering recalls, then my 05 in for steering recalls and now my 2012 in for steering recall. I think Dodge needs new engineers

Glad to here Dodge is finally addressing this problem, as they have been aware of it for years. I own a 2005 Ram 3500 and experienced a Death Wobble twice while pulling a stock trailer full of horses. Scared the s**t out of me both times. When I took it back to my dealer they changed out the front end tie rod assembly with a new heavier upgraded design. I was mad as hell when they presented me with a bill of over $1000. I argued with them, to no avail. I joined a class action law suit group on line and got no results to date. Obviously customer pressure has led to them finally doing the right thing announcing this recall. What really is disturbing, is this steering problem is obviously as serious safely issued Dodge has been very aware of for several years. I am guessing they have encountered a number of personal lawsuits. It is too dam bad it has taken so long for Chrysler to step up to the plate.

This recall has been out for a while. When I worked for dodge, the pitman arm didn't match the upgraded steering linkage that dodge issued as a repair. So then later they changed the pitman arm to match the linkage. Then they found out that some of their linkage tie rods were cocked sideways when they were installed. So to correct this they issued tie rods to be replaced and checked with a gauge to make sure they were straight.

The steering dampener that also contributed to the death wobble was replaced in this recall. This only applies to factory steering linkages. All aftermarket linkages, tie rods, etc. wont be repaired through a recall.

I know this because I repaired many linkages for this recall. Why they are stating that they are issuing it now, I have no idea.

This recall has nothing to do with the 'death wobble'. It is to repair for the left outer tie rod breaking under extreme conditions and has been out for a long time. Also this tie rod has not been broken while driving at high speeds, only when making a tight 90 degree turn.
