Default New AB License Plates Honouring our Troops

Anyone interested in buying a $150 license plate?

"It will be available in early 2014 and will cost $150. Unlike veterans’ plates that are available to military members and those police officers who have served abroad, all Albertans will be able to use the new plate."

I was initially concerned about where the extra $150 is going. But then I noticed this in the article:

"The $150 will cover registration fees and production costs, with any extra revenue going to Support Our Troops, a campaign that helps Alberta military families in need."

I absolutely love the idea. I'll get one for sure.

I wonder if they can re-issue existing plate numbers under the initiative or if it can only be done for new issues. I'm also wondering if they can print custom plates on the those, I have some custom plate ideas for my plumbing service van.

The operative word is; "If" ^.

Because there are no specific details available on exactly how much of the $150 actually goes towards the 'Support Our Troops' campaign, this initiative, on the surface, appears to be a sham.

You can count me out for now.

That may be a little optimistic. My renewal was $85 I think and a plate costs $15 to $20? I would expect that any extra revenue would be in the $50 range. But hey, that money goes to a good cause and you get a cool looking plate out of the deal.

I won't be giving up my poppy plate for one but if there's an option to buy a non-registered blank plate I'd put one on the front of my truck. I like the idea.

+1. I see a noble cause, resulting in another money grab for the Redford government.

That ^^^ !

Instead of wasting $150 buying a cheap piece of tin from the Redford government, this is where our money should go - https://www.cfmws.com/en/SupportOurT...s/default.aspx
