Default Good Day On The Ice

Had a great day on the ice with some fellow members today. I managed to pull out to biggest and the most for the day. I think most will know where this was. It was real ugly on the way down but turned into a great day. Next trip is a night fish for some Burbs fellas.

The guys were laughing at my bait. Had some monster mackerel 10-12 inch. They did not make fun of it after this. I normally hook big bait to the tip up and wait for the alarm to go off. I jig with smaller Smelts on my rod. You guys use oversized baits also?

When fishing a tip-up for pike usually use the herring from SuperStore, roughly 8"-10". Have had great luck. Have seen a 32" pike get a 22" walleye stuck in its mouth, no bait is too big for pike. But prefer the 8-12" range, fits in their mouth easier for a better hook up.
