Default North Wabasca report

Headed out to north wabasca on saturday for some multi species action. Roadway out to both shanty villages is in good shape. However once you leave the road to venture elsewhere conditions are a little tough. Ice is 18" thick with roughly the same amount of snow on it (18" or so). There is about a 3" semi hard layer on the snow then it is real soft. Flood water only occured once we started to drill holes, then there was about 2" of water on the ice. I managed my limit of pike 2-6lbs and released a beauty 39" about 18ish pounds. Fishing was slow, however we ended up fishing were we got stuck maybe 200yds further north of the northerly shanty village, not where I wanted to be. I managed a great deal of excercise shovelling and pushing my 3/4 ton diesel around the lake. Do not venture off the trail unless you are equiped with tire chains or a couple of BIG dudes. Did not manage any walleye or burbots all day.
Cheers!

Thanks for the report. Is the Shanty town off the big point? Thats where we always used to fish in the spring.

The first shanty town is just to the right of the town boat launch, and the second one is close to the large point. It seems to me that the northern village is further south than years past.

I see they built a golf course just behind the Point. Does it look like they are building a new camp ground with it. The lions campground is just going down hill. Should have a fence around it . a lot of bears walk threw because the dump is a few km away.
