Default kananaskis lakes advice

Never fished here before but gonna try it out. Read some threads and got some good info. What's the best place to go on upper and lower. Was thinkin of goin between the 2 and then I can try them both throughout the day. Also are you aloud to drive on. I assume not. What is the most productive species to target.

IMO the upper is easier; however the fish are larger in the lower. My best advice to finding a spot is try to get out of the wind and I have better results with the cutthroats closer to shore. Ice fishing you are allowed two rods I set one up for cuts and one for bulls.

Good Luck

No motorized vehicles allowed on the lakes period as it is a provincial park. Also, zero bait allowed including power bait (double check regs). Size of fish I believe is restricted as well to 30cm+ with a daily limit of how many can be taken. Have had success at the upper lake with a spoon but I haven't tried the lower yet.

I haven't fished them a ton but I've found that bulls on on the bottom in deep water and go for white tube jigs, cutties rainbows I've found them suspended at all different depths. Personally I would't bother fishing either lake without a flasher.

Last week I was having success in 42 feet of water on the upper lake, getting fish around 25 feet down with a jigging rap.

And I believe it is 1 trout, not bull, over 50cm not 30cm.

The regs for keeping fish on the upper AND lower lakes are 1 trout per person over 50cm, bull trout limit 0
