Default Saskatoons

I suffered some soft tissue damage to my ankle so have been unable to check my Saskatoon patch in Calgary. I was picking by the 21st last year wondering if anyone has been out and if they are ripe yet.

Not QUITE ready in Edmonton. Some early berries that are still a little reddish, but with this heat it is changing day by day. Should be good by Friday. Then lets hope it cools down or we lose the berries in the heat.

Seen and ate more the last two days. Some are like grapes but one bush had at least 50% with some form of blight. Gotta fight the mosquitos for them though.

The patches in Lethbridge I have hit the last couple years have nothing. The bushes all up and down the coulee we were in did not even look well. Disappointing as we were going to get some pies done.

Mine in Calgary are still very much unripe.

Just cleaned off the mummy berries amd tossed them out.

Dam robins are eating the unripe berries. What’s up with that.

Decent crop down here this year, and some real nice sized berries as well. Starting to dry out a bit tho

In my neck of the woods there are one or two berries per cluster ripe. It's good for a quick snack, but would be pretty frustrating picking right now.

Wondering if anyone has noticed if the black and red currents are priming up? They are so good with wild meats. I know one big patch I am hopefully going to check out soon.

Lots of rain and wind can apparently cause a spike in mummy berry. May be a bad crop there for that reason.

We went to the farm to pick up some huskap berries, got about 8lb in an hour and half between wife and myself and had to run for cover because mosquitos were absolutely vicious! But it was worth it, made 8 jars of haskap jam that we love!

Better half and I went out today scouting for berries. We did this almost two weeks ago and there was nothin' ripe on the bushes. Still nothin' today. Besides the toons we went out York Creek way for thimble berries. Same thing, lots of bushes still in flower or green. It had been a cool and rainy spring...must be the reason for the late bloom.

Picked a couple of ice cream pails full tonight. Some of them are already starting to dry up. Not the best I’ve seen, but not too bad.
