Size 12 is kind of vague. Suggest specifying 2x or 3x long, e.g., Daichi 1720 or Tiemco 5263 or equivalents.

Default Hot head Seal bugger

image.jpg

I blend a mixture of olive seal fur, olive rabbit dubbing and olive ice dubbing for the body. Olive ultra wire for the ribbing. Olive marabou for the tail.

Mine are done. Just need to drop them off

Black Holographic Tinsel - Medium

Hey! I tied some of these this morning using exactly the same materials except I tied them on size 14 Gamakatsu scud hooks.
I haven't had much luck using the bigger hooks for chiros (size 10).
Funny thing is, I've never heard of the "Zucchini chiro" and just tied them on a whim.

This colour combo is a hot producer in a certain lake west of Edmonton, but how is it different than a black and red snowcone?

Its WAAAAAY different!
Black holographic tinsel!
AND, I tie it left-handed, so all the wraps are the exact opposite of the regular ties.

Default Zucchini Chiro

FlyGuy:

It may not be any different. That was just the name someone else had used when I found it and tied some. Probably someone just trying to put their mark on something. For sure, I am not the originator or namer of this pattern. I think having a variety of sizes of these is probably the ticket. I just picked a size on the larger medium end. Smaller can be really effective. At least one lake I fish down in the states even one size bigger works great. I think that every body of water will likely have it's favored sizes.

I appreciate all the great information being posted here. Thanks.

You've chosen quite an elaborate fly for the swap. And you tie it very well.
How does the ostrich herl tail hold up?

thank you! it tends to get a little shredded after a few fish but still fishes just as good. its not the ideal tailing material but it just looks awesome on the fly

No idea what they cost, I buy thousands of hooks every couple of months. Call Iron Bow in Calgary. They sell that brand.

still only have 6 sets, they look awesome but I don't know what usernames own a couple of them . Please include your screen name with your flies. I have to pick a set up this week in Calgary and kritofr will drop his off for sure so I guess 8 sets are accounted for. Anyone who hasn't sent theirs in just let everyone know the status please and as soon as I get them, they will be sent out. I will say this though, they are some nice looking ties so far!
I will post a pic of the set when I have them all.
Cheers

My flies were dropped off at your house last week.

I also included my (real name), forum name, and a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of the flies from the swap. Of course I'm sure everyone did this. How else is the swap host going to know where to send your flies?

This is quite clearly stated in the "rules of the game"
