Cardiff pond report
Well I was reading the Alberta fishing guide today and apparently Cardiff pond has rainbows up to 9 lbs! Anybody have a recent report on Cardiff? I might just give it another try!

Are there any perch left in Cardiff? or is it true that they winterkilled a couple years ago?

I have to agree 9 lbs sounds a little to farfetched!

i have enjoyed going to cardiff in the past as it's close to town. for years i've heard the stories of monsters comming out of that pond. my largest was a 2 pounder but most were very small. heard that it is 150 feet deep in spots so you have to think that it doesn't winter kill and who knows, there could be some very big ones in there. tempted to put my canoe on it one day and find out just how deep it is.

very very very unlikely anything over 5 pounds exists imo, i caught a really fat 16-17 inch rainbow about 4 years ago and was showing it off to a guy on shore...15 mins later he showed me up with a solid 18 inches on a scud pattern, looked like a cfl football, my guess was 3-5 pounds from where I was. maybe back in the old days there may have been some, even now early spring before the stockers get in there is the best time to catch a bigger fish

That's cool that the perch are gone. I grew up fishing there and always wondered what it would be like with trout only. Caught a few nice ones there over the years, but they were few and far between. The Morinville reservoir had a few monster rainbows too but also very rare. Are the perch gone out of there too?

Perch are in Cardiff still, have caught some 7-9 inches in the last year, but they are not abundant in any way, when I was a kid it seemed like a 50/50 chance that the fish on your line was a perch, and a good sized one at that

I caught a 5 lb. trout at Cardiff 20 years ago.
I did see a big trout swim by when I was ice fishing there 2 years ago. He looked like a solid 5.
For the most part you will catch this and last years stocked fish.
