Somehow I missed this thread completely for the last 2 months...... maybe if it was posted in a fly fishing section....

My 2 cents:

Believe it or not, I have a limited amount of time to participate in this forum. I would definitely spend time on a flyfishing specific forum if there was one. I know there are multiple flyfishing forums on the web, but frankly I don't have time to go to multiple sites.

I like this forum, save the occasional "quality fishing" poo-flinging, and am entertained enough by my fellow Albertans to not have to go searching elsewhere. Hell, I rarely even stop by CGN anymore.

I think a lot of people would spend more time here if they could find the specific info they wanted. You might not get the "uppity elitest" types, but who wants them? I consider myself a pretty hard core fly fisher and fly tier, having fished many places for many species and tied everything from foam flies to soft hackles, life like nymphs to feather wing Atlantic Salmon flies, but I have no interest in having a discussion about the advantages of Stillwater Solutions scud back over Brand X - I'll leave thy for those who are more interested in appearance than catching fish.

Even though I chuck hardware and dangle the odd worm, I really don't have much interest in talking about it, or hearing others talk about it. Now, if you catch an 8lb walleye double hauling a Deep 7 line and a 2/0 Clouser, post up some pics!!!

x107 for a Flyfishing page.

I think it would be a great idea, however i do see it slowing down once fly fishing season is over. But that wouldnt stop me from discussing new things to do with fly fishing and what not. I guess all in all i dont mind either way.

Imagine if ice fishing was split into a separate group. Wouldn't be too much happening now in there now and even less in 2 or 3 weeks from now. Somebody wanting to know ice conditions today for fly fishing somewhere may not think of looking at a post in ice fishing where someone may have posted ice conditions for safety's sake. Eg.-Ghost, Spray or even Chain lakes south of Calgary. In reverse, in the fall, someone may not think of looking in fly fishing forum to see when ice started forming on a certain lake before they head out.

All in all, this one with everything combined moves nicely and I feel that people would move from one to another as the seasons change, thereby possibly missing something that they would otherwise have known.
I agree with kokanee, I enjoy just a fishing section. I can go there read all the posts without jumping back and forth to so many different sections. Keep it plain and simple. Its always effective.

as a non-fly fisherman I would be all for it. There are lots of threads that are irrelevant and not interesting. Unless you check the forum regularly sifting through 3 pages of threads is a little much

I would also think however that th fly fishing thread would be fairly slow come hard ice season....

Same is said by us fly fishers. Pain in the butt going through 20 threads of pike and walleye threads.

ANOTHER PLUS ONE FROM ME.

As for what FH7 said. Fly fish calgary is a BMW forum (B*tching, Moaning, Whining). The mods are absolute tools.

I vote in favor, searching for info can sometimes be a bit time consuming and frustrating at times...on any subject for that matter. In the end, legwork is the way to go, but always nice to get some Quick tips lol. Poll, poll, poll!

Maybe its a good thing that people are targeting pike and walleye (more trout for us!!)
I just don't think Fly Fish Calgary like people posting pictures of the same fish and claiming it to be multiple fish. Kinda happens here a lot too, along with a lot of whining... A little annoying haha

Yes, it's going to happen. I imagine we'll have it ready for posting for the start of October. And NO, there will NOT be any other forums added other than fly-fishing.
