Default Yeti Coolers

Just wondering if anyone has purchased a Yeti Cooler?
What do you think of it?
Where did you get it?

Thanks

I dont know much about the Yeti . I did buy my self a Colman 6 day cooler Green with a white lid and man does it hold ice well cost me $80 worth every penny . I am not sure how the rate the Yeti for holding ice But it loks a qulity unit as well . If you dont get any feed back i would not be to worryed about spending the money .

Default I like mine.

I have the 60 litre and the lunch box. They are expensive but I was sick of my ice being gone by the time, I arrived at my destination.

They are incredibly sturdy but heavy. The lid has a gasket all the way around and very positive latches, so when you close it up it's closed, stays closed and is completely sealed.

They can keep ice a very long time but you have to practice they same kind of preperation and management that you do to keep things hot in your thermos.

I put a bunch of ice in it the day before and cool it down. Everything that goes in it needs to be chilled in the fridge or the freezer so you don't lose all the energy from your ice right off the get go. Keep the lid closed and keep it out of the sun.

If you do all those things a Yeti will keep ice an amazing long time.

I actually have a couple of those coolers. They have been good coolers for camping and average use. The downfall on them is the handles, the latches, and the lid. They claim the Yeti is bear proof if you use locks on it. I know that with my Coleman a goat could probably get into it without too much trouble let alone a bear.

My thoughts on a Yeti were to have a good quality cooler for everyday use plus have a cooler that could be used for hunting, fishing, and be ok for airline travel. I see they are very pricy but I am guessing they would last a person a lifetime.

I have a friend who works for the company ( yeti coolers). They are bear proof. He was there when they did the bear test and the bear spent an hour trying to get into one and then finally giving up. These things are indestructable and well worth the money. You would be going theought several coleman coolers before you would ever go through a yeti. Think of it as an investment.

My only Yeti experience was I went and grabbed one the other day and when it crossed the till I nearly croaked at the price! I guess I should have looked first LOL. I'll stick with my Coleman Extremes and just take care of the bears myself. Can you imagine what the inside of a cooler would look like after a bear mauled it around for an hour?

Ya they sure are nice, but I cant see how being 'bear proof' is really a super big thing for me. So a bear tosses it around, destroys your tent, chews your gear and plays around with it, and you get to cook a scrambled egg omelet the next day cause everything is mixed around and in a huge mess inside!!

If a cooler keeps things nice and cold for a long time thats all I really look for.

I've got an 86 ltr one and it works very well. I haven't used it as much as the price dictates but it kept meat frozen with the freezer blocks for a six day trip. Works excellent as a portable bar with loose ice to keep the beer cold. Used for a few golf tournaments. Very little ice melt even though it was opened and closed quite often. Detriment to me is the weight but if it wasn't heavy it probably wouldn't work as well. They have rubber cleats on the bottom so it doesn't slide around in the back of the truck as well. Also doesn't slide worth a crap when loading either. No worries sitting on it or stacking stuff on it either.

I started buy buying a Yeti 85 qt a couple of years ago. There are no coolers made that come even close to the Yeti. After using the cooler a few times, I discovered that the cold from the ice actualy transfers the cold into the items stored in the cooler. Pulling out a can of beer or pop, the can is so cold you can hardly hold it your hands. I now have three diiferent sizes. All Yeti: Gave all of my colemans away.

My son has several of the Yeti coolers, he uses them for storing hot or cold food for catering. Some of the events he caters for have to be inspected by food inspectors. Claims when they see his coolers in action they are always pleased.

I believe they are a sponsor for the forum. Could you maybe call them direct and explain that you are a Moderator on the board. Maybe they could send you a "Sample" for review. That way, you could post up some positive input about their product if warranted. We get a real life informed opinion from someone we trust. And they get more exposure for their product out to 20,000+members.

I think this is a Win-Win-Win scenario.
NHO.

Great idea, sadly I doubt they will buy that idea.
Hey maybe AO magazine needs a 400 word product piece for a future magazine.

I think the business name was U.K. Products. Or something close to that they were in the industrial area of Edmonton kinfd of SE of that truck stop on 170 st. I'm gonna guess 165 st and 116 ave , something like that. As for cost I forget, they were expensive but I was sick of my ice melting before I got where I was going.

Interesting thread. I also see Pelican has gotten into the heavy duty cooler space. If their coolers are near as good as their gun cases they should be another reasonable choice to look at. Cost vs cost and performance, it will be interesting to see which is the best.

If you're looking for Yeti or Engel coolers call Underwater Kinetics in Edmonton. They're a sponsor on here and charge less than half of the other stores!

An old thread revival, while I initially croaked at the price of Yeti's, I got the Tundra 50 as a birthday present this year. I have been extremely impressed with the cooler and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one if I needed it. I wouldn't mind a second for camping ect... put drinks in one and food in the other.

I’ve got a Yeti 80, and a Cabelas 80 and 100. They’re all great units. I’ve had the yeti for 7 years now. It’s good, and tough. Good investment. I was tired of weak hinges and soft material.

I have the Engel.
Eight days camping in Cypress Hills last summer when temps were 30c most days. Really limit my time with the lid open, just a minute or two per meal but at the end of the trip their was still some original ice in the chest.
