All this high 1st round pick talk maybe another option would be packaging your 1st with Huberwho and trading for a 3rd. Might be the only way to get rid of Trevlings high priced anchor

Salaries too high. If you’re forced to retain salary might as well keep the player. He’s played good… just not for the salary.

Different than Nurse who is way over paid and screws up a lot.

I think I'd rather have the pick honestly. For 24/25, one or two UFA/RFA on their top 3 lines or top 3 pairings and a projected cap space of $18M. Who are we going to sign for $28M that we couldn't with $18M?

Maybe if you're thinking really long term, like in 27-28, but the next few years are going to be tough, with or without Huberdeau, so I'd rather they keep the pick. Maybe they'll get lucky and snag a Seider, Hughes, Mittelstadt, Tkachuk, Keller type with their 1st pick in the 5-10 range.

Even if that happens, I'd rather be in the dance than sitting at home in the basement like a loser.

Sucks those Ronald McDonald color-scheme jerseys have to be put away for another spring hey? lol

Do you think the boys will be able to pull off a loss to the Sharks tonight? It would be something if they could.

I think they have it in them!

Montreal won big time tonight, so they and Ottawa are currently within one.

Fingers crossed. If they play their best games I feel player for player Edmonton right now, this year is the best team they’ve had and can be unbeatable

Not sure about that, if last night was any indication I think they will do OK, but we all know playoffs is a different game.

I know I've harped on it before, but man, that Lindholm trade....

I'm basically at the point were if it was Lindholm for Kuzmenko, we'd have still won the trade. He has four more goals than Lindholm has points, and we got a 1st round pick, arguably the best dman in the OHL, and their 4th.

-Johnny Gaudreau, 12 goals this season;
-Jonathan Huberdeau, 12 goals this season;
-Andrei Kuzmenko, 14 goals in in 28 games as a Flame!

Still think it's hilarious that T.J. Brodie has the same amount of goals as I do this year.

Guess I can hope for the lottery win now.

I do not care who wins the cup this year as long as it is a Canadian team this time around

Our version of Games 7 of the cup final tonight!

Sure hope it's a good outcome. At the very least that we don't drop.

Default Markstrom Traded

Well the announcement will be made later today but Flames traded Markstrom to the Devils for defenseman, Kevin Bahl, and a 2025 first round draft pick. Also the Flames will retain part of his salary. What they got back in return seems like a pretty slim haul for the Flames but it is what it is. Obviously, Markstrom wanted out of Calgary.

The Calgary Flames have agreed to trade star goaltender Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils, Sportsnet can confirm.

The Flames are receiving defenceman Kevin Bahl and a top-10 protected 2025 pick in return for the 24-year-old.

Calgary will retain 31.25 per cent of Markstrom’s remaining contract. The netminder is headed into the fifth season of a six-year, $36 million contract he signed with the Flames in 2020. The cap hit for the deal in New Jersey will be $4,125,000 each season.

With the ongoing water main issues in Calgary, I have to say something "Stinks" about this deal.

No running water so the saddle dome now is home to a ball hockey team.

LA traded PLD to Washington for Kuemper. Seems like a great deal for LA...

Calgary is in for a long, rough rebuild. Something us Oilers fans are well acquainted with.

I did to me too.

That being said, goalies aren't typically worth alot on the trade market. If you look at some historic moves for reasonably good goalies,

-Robin Lehner to Vegas in 2020 for a 2nd round pick;
-Devan Dubnyk to the Wild in 2015 for a 3rd round pick;

Remember MAF, won the Veznia in 2021 then the Knights traded him to Chicago that summer for the household name, Mikael Hakkarainen, who played 14 games in the AHL and is now retired.

As much as I was hoping Dawson Mercer was coming back, I now feel a 1st is pretty good.

Oilers only have ~$10 million to sign nine guys.

This year they are all in -- if they don't do it, Draisaitl leaves after next season and McJesus leaves the year after.

I'm good with it; We now have 6 1st round picks in the next three seasons, and a solid group of young talent, including a promising goalie. Things could be looking up when the new arena is done! Conroy knows what he's doing.

All you can do is have a good attitude and celebrate the victories whenever they come. Was chatting with a Flames fan who is a buddy of mine. We agreed that the fortunes of Dustin Wolf will play a key role in determining which way things head.

When things were at their most bleak in the Oilers’ futile years, at least if you had a good goalie you could steal games when things went your way. Without a goalie you are urinating into a stiff headwind most nights. Certainly against the top half of the league.

It would be really really good if they can get Tij Iginla in draft at #9. The pedigree. He had better numbers then his dad this year. Apparently his shot is *very* heavy. We need Iginla 2.0

Yup. That’s what I said awhile back……
The flames fan base will always be there but it sure would give them something to fire them up again.
Even the fence sitters would come alive…..
That’s the kind of effect Jerome had on the city.
Way more than Johnny hockey.
A true power forward.
