Default 50 LB Chinook Caught Today! Salmon on Fire!

Hey guys,

Don't usually make a separate thread from my fishing reports one unless something awesome happens..and today that was it. One lucky guest caught a 50lber...and his fishing partner caught a 31lber, so both part of the Tyee Club. Limits of Chinook for all boats, and halibut for two boats up to 65lbs. What a great day!

This is why August is such a blast...you never know what bite might be the monster...and I guarantee we have lost or missed at least another 3-4 this size this year. The rod went off and before anyone could even get to it it was peeling line in the holder, almost spooling us but had just enough line left to not quite get me worried. As Mike reeled in I could tell it was a big fish...it was slow to come in....often even 20-30lbers take BIG runs then come to boat fairly easily after that...this one didn't...slow n steady...before long it was directly beneath the boat sulking....rod was bent in half!!! I said either a big halibut or a bigggg salmon....as both do this same thing. It was literally a stalemate for about 5min. Not gaining anything on him even though he was just below the boat about 30ft. All of a sudden the line went towards the surface about 40ft off the stern...that's when i KNEW it was a salmon, no halibut does that.

It broke surface and all I heard from Mike was holy ****....we knew it was big...how big not sure yet. After a couple minutes of swimming around the boat and around the boat the big brute turned on it's side and we knew we had it...into the net it went. Asked Mike if he wanted to release it but he said he didn't and wanted to eat it, so that's fair, in the boat he went. 46" in length by 29.75" in girth..what a hog! John only a few minutes later got a Tyee of his own in a 31lber. Perfect day for some awesome guests!

This is why people book August...the chance at sea monsters! Out again tomorrow, supposed to be windy but we will still get at em! Sure there are a few more sea monsters to be had! Let me know if you're thinking of 2017, had a lot of PM's from the last few posts. Know 2017 will be another great year!

David

Awesome fish! You'd sure feel that on the line compared to a little coho! (I never caught a big coho yet tho!)

All your competing charter companies should be thanking you for your Port Hardy promotion. I'm sure they don't realize it, but all your social media exposure lands them much added business. When dates didn't work for me to come with you last year, I booked with a different charter, but... DID NOT have your style of results!!!

Thanks for the photos, the mass quantities of real fish keeps it interesting on the fishing forum.

Thanks guys, Mike (guest) fought it absolutely perfectly...and what a memorable fight. Can't wait for the next one to be sulking under the boat, maybe it will be one of you guys fighting it on the rod!

Thanks for the kind words Marty, looking forward to having you out in 2017 and we will slay some absolute beauty Chinook and Coho. I'm excited for next season already, and this one isn't even over yet I think that adds to why guests have a good time, our group of guides now love to be on the water and love fishing and it shows.

Today was awesome fishing again...will post more pictures as season winds down on the reports thread. Hope to get a few of you out this upcoming season to show you some great fishing.

Have the new fishing show, Fishing the Wild West Ft. Wes David out next week, be sure to look for our couple episodes this upcoming year!
