Default May Long Wkd in NB1

Fished FloatingStone and Garner over the long weekend. Fishing...not the usual long weekend pike masacre but wonderful to be out in the weather and the boat.

Funniest thing was a pike that I caught ran to the bottom and came up with the lure and a stick in its mouth. It wouldn't let go of the stick, like a dog chomped down on its favorite chew toy. Really fun times. I would take a nice weekend like that anytime.

Here are some pics:

Launching the boat at FloatingStone.

Somehow this pike managed to wedge the plug in lengthwise - lockjaw!

Nice wallie from FloatingStone

Cheers!

What was the boat launching like and floating stone and Garner? I was at fork lake for the may long and it was quite a task just to launch my 14ft alum not sure how you would have got yours on the water at fork. Did you try for any perch as I have a young neice and nephew that want their uncle to take them perch fishing. It has been years since I have been to either lake but the perch fishing was always good for my young ones when they were growing up

Boat launches are fine at both. You do have to drive a bit off the cement to get to the correct depth but the sand is solid off both launches. Fork is one of the worst examples in the area.

Didn't try for perch. I would recommend Garner over FloatingStone. FloatingStone was good at one time but the 0 limit pike and walleye put tons of pressure on the perch. Now the majority are just wee ones and no one is fishing for perch much there. Makes for a quiet time fishing the other species as C&R. Garner has a reduced limit to 5 perch which seems to have helped that lake.

When would be the best time to take the young ones ? mid june or later june We would have to do this on the weekend as their mother may think school work is more important. I think the limit of 5 perch would be enough to keep their desire for fishing alive. I know the excitment they had with the pike they caught at fork. Now if they could say they have caught a pike as well as perch they may want to keep the quest going and try for walleye. Is there a possible lake around that area that I may not be aware of that also holds good perch that if Garner does not pan out that I could also try. p.s. thanks for the info on the boat launches at both lakes.

Bar Z, Fork is where my kids learned to fish perch. Did you try at all? It used to be full of them, but I have not fished there in years, even though I still have a bush quarter about 8 miles from there.
