Perch? In the Fishing Regulations: limit 0, 5 or 15 for listed lakes and rivers in Alberta.

years ago we used to go up to North Buck Lake N.E. of Edmonton. We caught some jumbos there. 12-14"ers. Haven't been there for ten years though.

North Buck has seen the same fate of many of the other great perch lakes of the past. More little ones than anything now. There are a few 12 - 13 inchers there but it is pretty hit and miss. Mostly miss. I was there last Saturday. Fished it a few times last winter as well. I think I am going to move on to some other lakes now in the quest for big perch.

Heads up , they are still out there, just in their 10 year low cycle...they start out...grow...produce lots more...lake gets over populated...dies off, a few survive and start growing, and it starts all over...ok its just my theory but hey I like it...I have a favourite perch lake I have been fishing for almost 20 years and I have seen this happen there. It has been pretty much dead for the past 5 years...then this weekend......Volia!! and a few followed as well..so start looking, do some homework and do a bit of leg work in your old favourite perch lakes and fnd the hogs!

Those are some nice perch. We used to catch some hogs like that in saskatchewan and northeast alberta. The fishing has gone down lately and many lakes are not producing like they used to. I think some are becoming to accessible especially in the lakeland provincial park area. Blackett and Kinnaird used to be a good trek in the summer and only a few people would attempt it. Now you can damn near drive a truck in there and its as busy as Sylvan Lake water slides - its a shame.

Thumbs up Perch Location

I spoke to a wise native elder and maintains that the perch are in the water and still under the ice. He explained to me that location is outside of his cabin. I said you better stop drinking canadian rye straightout of the bottle.
Cheers

There's still some monster Perch in Alberta, you just gotta know where to go I guess. Here's one from Clyde Lake towards Conklin, way back in the bush. I went several times last year, and you could limit out in these jumbos in as much time as it took you to bait your hook and drop it down. Don't bother asking how to get there, it winterkilled at the tail end of last winter.

Axeman: Good one ! Personally myself, I'd much rather have one with Budweiser girl !!(No need for the Beer...)

But seriously, there are still lakes that contain "Sumo Perch". I can tell you that they are few and far between with Lakes that are within major Urban areas. Any lakes that are close with Jumbo's, you can be guaranteed that Fishermen will be tight lipped about locations.
You're just have to do your homework and recons. It'll pay off
