Default White Tail

P5151511.jpg

Just picked this fellow up from the taxidermist. I know not everyone would appreciate a buck like this one, but I have always liked the unusual antlers and mass of the non-typicals.

This is the first White-Tail I put on the ground since my Dad had passed away and I believe he scores higher in my books then he really should compared to the tape.

My wife is against hunting so it’s great to have a forum like this where I can show him to fellow hunters who might appreciate him.

Great deer. I too prefer a non-typical over a typical anyday. Takes a pretty big typical to catch my eye.

Awesome buddy.........I would have done the same!! I'm hoping to get a nice WT someday that I put on the wall beside my Mulie. I don't care if its a typical or a cool NT one like yours.

Thanks guys,

Not a really exiting story, kind of like one of those broken plays in hockey that just ends up in the net.

I set up on the east side of a large swamp just before day light. It was pre-rut and the forecast was for a Chinook to blow in before noon. The wind wasn’t great when I arrived (SSE) and bitter cold. I going to sit until the wind swung west and then still hunt the swamp until dark.

Although this is a proven stand it is in one of the darkest and eeriest places on earth. Nothing moves in there most of the day so if you see anything at all it is generally a mature buck or a coyote.

At eleven am there is still hardly a breath of wind and the temperature has only risen a degree or two. I hear some rattling coming from just out of view. It continues for about a half hour and at times sounds quite intense.

At about one thirty a nice chunk of a buck runs from my left and then slows to a walk about 50 yards in front of me. I’m thinking he may be a shooter but wanted to see his width. I put the scope on him and give a couple soft grunts in an attempt to get him to look my way. He immediately looks over his shoulder from where he had just came.

Leaving the scope on this deer I look to my right to see what he is looking at. The buck in the photo is walking directly towards me with his head down. I slowly get the scope on him and even at one and a half power he is an awesome site.

At about 20 yards the first deer snaps a twig and when this fellow raised his head I caught him just above the brisket, front on.

Was using a 7600 Remington 30-06 with 180s and 1.5- 6 Bausch and Lomb.

Nice buck! I like the unusual ones too, you always remember them...my first buck in 2006 had a broken tine, but still 6 points..i always wonder how he broke it....

As for your wife.....if she's not a vegetarian, come join the hunting ladies and see where meat comes from!! My husband stay at home while I go hunting

and if she is a vegetarian, hope you find some plates for all that venison.....

Sheeze. Nine, no need to ask STUPID questions.

Hey, sweet buck. I love the NTs personally. I'd love to put one on the wall. Once got within 30 yards of an 11X9 mulie, but it was on the Hamptons golf course!

Great story also, and thanks for sharing.

I'm against wives who won't let the husband spend a bit of money from the joint bank account on guns and taidermy. You shoudl tell her your against shopping and all that other spa crap women blow money on. Good buck though I also like the messy looking racks. Our scoring systems are stupid anyways with the deductions.

In my opinion a trophy is measured by the hunt, and the people involved in the hunt, not just with a measuring tape.I myself am disposing of several mounts to make room in my home, but I will always have the memories. That being said,I will not part with my bighorn or my Grizzly rug.LOL.
