Default WHITE FISH ON Sylvan Lake

Fished a couple times over the last two weeks at Sylvan with a small hook and maggot combo with NO success!!. You can see the whitefish picking at something in the weeds on the bottom and totally ignoring the maggots?? I was thinking fresh water shrimp?? Bottom line I suck RRRRR any suggestions to help catch whitefish at Sylvan ??? Thanks in advance

Stop using camera's for whites you will just make them spook even easier than they already do. Try a wireworm without the maggot i get more hookups this way. Keep trying different wireworms till you find whats working. Fish in 4-6Fow.

Try brass or copper Wetaskiwin Spoons. Bounce them on the bottom, raise up a foot or so to flutter down then let hang motionless 2" - 4" off bottom for 10 - 15 seconds. They will grab it while hanging motionless or as you raise it off bottom. Gave up on wire worms with or without bait several years ago. In past years we have found 8' - 13' seem best this time of year and especially try to locate where burbot spawn for the next few weeks as the whites congregate there to scavenge burb eggs.

Default Castaway Sports

Get some gold or silver bells from Castaway in Sylvan. Bounce them off the bottom, no weeds, just sand or dirt. Instructions as to how to use them can be obtained at the store. they have Wetaskiwins also. Very good lures to use at this time of year. BEL

Heading out tomorrow. Where is a good spot on Sylvan for whities. Is it better at Gull? What does a Wetaskiwin spoon look like? Thanks.

Agreed whitefish are camera shy, so what I did was go to an aquarium shop, I bought some artificial weeds and wrapped it around the camera head and 3 feet of the cord. I still tend to put the camera about 8 feet away but has definitely helped. Before that I could not get them to come close.

Default Time of day

Thanks for the good advice Im going to try all three suggestions. What about time of day has anyone had more success in low light vs mid day kind of thing? Or is it fairly random?

Thanks stinky. Caught a couple burbs today on gold bottom bouncers. 8 fow. Dirt bottom. A couple questions for the pros. What habitat do burbs like. Weeds, sand? Do they have bad vision? Both burbs today seemed to have trouble finding the hook. Thinking of heading over to rr23. Is it Sandy over there. Thanks again.
