Default RDR Opening Day

I had no plans to fish this weekend. I thought it opened next weekend. Speckle put the bug in my ear. So.... On my way down to Calgary I stopped off at the Red Deer River. Didn't even wet a line until about 6:30 p.m. Plan was to catch some goldeye for the smoker instead I caught huge Rocky Mountain white after huge white. I was sure I seeing brown trout surface but after catching enough and seeing them slurp, it was all big, big RMWs. The smallest I caught was maybe 17 inches and fat, fat, fat, porky, fat. The takes where aggressive and not subtle. And the fight was way above RMW average. These things fought like they were being sentenced to death. Even 6 fish in and I was still fooled into thinking they were scrappy browns….

Biggest was the last one at 19 inches and a bit. Likely close to 2 lbs. Monster RMW! And I thought the Bow had big ones….the average size here was pretty special. Great evening out!
