Default Is this unusual....it seemed to work

Yo! Last night on the bow I put a wind knot in my line while casting. Frustrated and almost time to go i Took the thingamabob off and just threw out the floating line and 9 feet of leader / tippett with a San Juan and a hares ear and just let it drift down river while keeping Tension on the line.

Caught three fishies (small)

Anyone else do this regularly?

We call that fishing "naked"!!

That is the "traditional" style of nymphing!!

Also, google "down stream swing" AKA "Quartering down"

It is the preferred technique for streamers.

It works well for nymphing as the nymph usually rises at the end of the swing, much like a natural "emerging" insect!!

That is one of the more popular methods right know on the bow. Swinging wet flys. With the caddis hatch going on right know, swinging a wet fly imitates an emerging caddis and can be very deadly.

It was no coincidence that it worked for you, you happened to try it at about the perfect time of the year.

That's the way my Dad taught me, that's the way he still does and that's the way I do it again. Went to an indicator for quite a while but back to nymphing naked. I like being able to feel the hit now to be honest.

"nymphing naked" sounds kinky to me!

Then again flyfishing is the most fun a man can have,,, standing up!!!

AND... of course everyone knows Fly-fishers have longer rods!!!
