Question for all you Winchester buffs-pre 64 pics added
So last night I came pretty close to making a deal with a buddy on a gun I have been wanting of his for the last 15 yrs. Only thing that kept us from finishing the deal was the amount of whiskey in the bellies, figured we should finish it up sober some day.
The gun is a pre 64 .375 in absolutely mint shape, not many down the pipe in this one ( he pulled the trigger on it once since he's owned it). Rings and bases with a VX111 2.5x8 sitting on it (don't really want the scope but can always use another fish bonker ).
What do you think it's worth?

Figures you would have the blue book
Where did you pick the book up from?

Depending on version, model etc. Anywhere from $1500 up. The blue book has no bearing actually in the real world up here.

i don't recall which one it was, the pre64 or the post 64, but i know my friends were comparing their mod 70 375's, and using the same load, one was kicking harder than the other. they found the stock design was different. so if recoil is an issue, you may want to find the one that is more comfortable to shoot.

We'll get a deal done one of these days sober, than it'll be another excuse to get loaded again
Just curious what you guys figured a fair price is on one, I know the pre 64's in .375 are pretty sought after, and this one is MINT. Doubt I would ever use it, just gotta have it.

I had a tough time trying to figure this one out when I got my 375 as well. After some research as to what restoring would do to value it got even tougher. In the end I decided to have it restored and use it.
The gentleman that owned it was a very close family friend and boyhood idol of mine.....tough ol' fella for sure!!!
He bought this rifle when he took his Wife up North to do the surveying on the DEW line in the 50's. I guess we know what he decided was the rifle of choice when ya could only take one. Can't say I disagree with him. The original scope is on it as well....ScopeChief Triple Tested. I imagine it was a cutting edge rig in its day!!
Here is a link to who he was:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Anderson-Thomson
Five days after I recieved the rifle I was contacted by the museum as they wanted the rifle.....in the end I figured they had lots of stuff provided by him and will keep it as a shooter for the rest of its days.
They were made to knock stuff down
A big thanx goes out Gitrdun and Bob at Custom Gunworx for taking it on.....I couldn't be happier

Unfortunaletly the one in your picture has an aftermarket recoil pad that is not original, might not mean much to you or me but to collectors or sellers who deal in collector prices just that alone really hurts the collector value and puts it into the realistic world of value as a shooter rifle, a darn nice one at that. It beggs to go hunting and not be hidden away in a safe.
