Broke the stock on my Browning 300WM BBR
I had a bad day yesterday. I slipped and fell on ice and broke the stock on my rifle. I've been using this rifle for 25 plus years. Need to get a new stock.
Where and who makes replacement stocks for rifles?

If you got all the pieces, I've been successful in repairing them. Rolled my quad with my 444 strapped to it, broke in half. I've since glued and clamped it, light sand, tongue oil, can't even tell.

OK, so what if this fails, while you're shooting ? A good glued joint CAN be as strong as solid wood, but is very difficult to attain. Weakest part , that gets the most stress. Think I'd splurge and get a new stock.

Or maybe a new rifle. He's been shooting overbore rounds out of it for 25 years, so I doubt the throat is as good as it could be. Maybe other stuff is worn and/or bent or fatigued because of the accident too.
Could be a good opportunity to think about what improvements he wished he had over the years and go shopping.
And he should have a decent sling on it too; this at 1 1/4 inch wide:

I really like this gun. I agree that a new stock is the safest. Nothing wrong with the sling (narrow on the bottom but nice and wide at the shoulder).
Although my wife thinks a new gun is in order this gun still has to fixed. And I love this gun it is so accurate.

It is stronger than the wood itself. The recoil of the 444 hasn't broke it yet, and if I rolled my quad again I'll guaratee you it would break in a different spot.
Then again if you want to spend money.
I can only speak for myself, but every time I see this gun, I remember my old man packing it stocking moose. Memories just wouldn't be there with some synthetic stock.
Sentimental, I might be, but even breaking the stock is a memory that can't be replaced.

Just look at that stock. It's broken almost parallel to the line of recoil forces. Every time he fires it, the glue line is going to take the full force of a .300 WINCHESTER MAGNUM. Would you want to take a chance of that hitting you in the face ? Good rifle, they don't build them like that any more and well worth the couple of hundred a new stock would cost. Doesn't have to be synthetic.

i did that once. near enough cried. i was just a kid and that rifle was my pride and joy. it was the most expensive thing i ever bought when i first got it, and i was absolutely sick at what happened. it wears a synthetic stock now, and my kid shoots it, but i still have the splinters.....

I hear ya, but a good woodsmith will put a pin in the wrist also and it would be better than new. If you have all the bits. I would look at a nice laminate though if that happened to be mine. Spruce the old girl up a bit.

Like I said stronger than the wood itself.
Shooting the gun for twenty-five years, took a 180-220# man falling on its side, to break it I would never worry about it.
Then again, I never even thought twice about my 444, it was broken right at the lever (same place). It looks original and I've never hesitated to shoot it.
I've been working with wood my whole life, glue works wonders. Good old white glue awesome ****.

By the way splake0, I have a BBR brand new never fired (manufactured in '83)but I can't part with it. Matter of fact I just like to look at it. Went as far a putting a scope on it this year but haven't sighted it in yet. Trust me when I say I feel your pain, it is truely a subperbly manufactured rifle.

Took a 1961 Browning Safari .270 with a break similar in on trade in 1976. He was hunting elk in Manitoba and fell down a hill, landing on the stock. It sat in the corner for a year. I used two fibre glass dowels and marine expoxy, clamped it together - all the wood was there. Let is sit for a couple of weeks, took the clamps off, cleaned up the checkering, lightly oil it and tried it. On Friday I shot my mule deer with the same rifle. My father (past away in 1980) and an older brother have also used it since I repaired it. Don't give up on a good glue job. Just take care and do not rush. Let everything cure. Or like some suggest, have a new stock made to fit you!

Nothing to lose by trying to glue it, the newer wood glues are strong. Pinning it with a dowel or two internally is a bit of work, but a good insurance add-on.

Try that guy in Nanton. I seen a stock he repaired. Seems to do a decent job. He advertises repairs and replacements.

If you have all the pieces I would give it my best shot at putting it back to gether. No charge if you handle the shipping. I'm in Calgary.

There's a gunsmith co in Cranbrook
Cant remember the name . Google it.
They build custom stuff for safari club types. Old school Germans who are first rate craftsmen.
They repaired my 7mmrm stock after I got thrown by a horse and my rifle went flying as well.
It was a very reasonable cost. And I've been shooting it for 2 years now.
You should check them out. They work miracles!
