My vote is on Brown Trout....Why? cause its a brown trout? Black spots with few or none on the tail is the reason.

Why not include those physical characters that determine what you think this is?

this was always a big issue when I was living in Maine because we had landlocked atlantic salmon, sea run atlantics, and browns. Most of the time you can tell from a decent picture, but other times it is almost impossible to tell without actually examining the fish. My vote, though, is Atlantic Salmon, based on the short mouth alone.

it's not actually a species per say, but a sub-species of atlantic salmon you are referring to. Atlantic salmon = Salmo salar Atlantic Squab Salmon = Salmo salar squabdidae

I don't know how big they get, infact I can't find a whole lot of info on them accept from the Scott/Crossman book i have called Freshwater Fish of Canada - it just briefly mentions them in the Atlantic Salmon section and talks about wether or not they should be a considered a sub-species or not. That book was written like 40 years ago and I know they are still a sub-species today so that argument must have not held up. Someone needs to start a wikipedia entry for them.
