Default I use 2 iSnipe and Vortex LRBC

On my cell phone i use iSnipe its excellent. On the computer I use the Vortex Long Range Ballistics Calculator.

heres a link (its free)

http://apps.vortexoptics.com/lrbc/

if you create a login it stores your info on different rifles cartridges and bullets. You can also change locations and times of year you might be shooting. This then alters the conditions like altitude temperature and humity. Its quite accurate and in most outings it gets me on the gong first shot. (if my wind call is correct).

A link to iSnipes site

Isnipe is very easy to use. Ab mobile is very good as well. Usually shooting at 1100 yards i know 27 moa with the 6.5-284 or 23 moa with the 7LRM is going to get me pretty darn close. Fire a couple and spot your shots for fine tuning.

I use Applied Ballistics. I find that it most closely replicates what I see in real life. I used iSnipe for years until my shooting distances increased. iSnipe seems to be ok until you reach beyond 500m. Then it varies in accurate results as much as 4moa (to a mile).

I just compared iSnipe and AB on the weekend out to a kilometre. AB most replicated what I was seeing. AB only varied less than 1/4moa at a kilometre. iSnipe was off by more than 2.25moa at a kilometre.

Kestrel units are popular for portable weather stations. As far as wind readings go, the hand held units will only measure at the place where you're holding them. Down range....not so much. But they are great for other environmental readings. Barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, height above sea level, etc..

Take ballistic software for what they really are...just something to get you close. The rest is up to the shooter.

I use a Kestrel I just have the basic one. You can get models that incorporate much of the information used in ballistics software but they are a higher price.

I have only shot out to 600 meters and so far iSnipe has been pretty close with the shooting solutions its offering. I also do a print out from the Vortex site and compare the two. If one doesnt get me on target I switch to the other. They are usually within a click or two of each other.

I hope to shoot a out to 1000m this winter/spring so i might have to switch to Applied Balistics. The app looked impressive but its $39.99

Do the more expensive Kestrel units include the Applied Ballistics to there product?

For a ballistic APP, I use the free version of Strelok on my Samsung tablet. It's never failed me.

For a anemometer (wind meter) I use a Hold Peak that I've purchased from Amazon

Default Strelok pro

Strelok pro has been an awesome program that has been pretty close all the way out to 1300yds. Most of the time it's within 1/2 MOA. I have a Caldwell wind meter. It works fine, it cannot take the place of good wind reading skill down range though.

Default Cool invention

SOmeone needs to create a bullet that sends trajectory data back to a smart phone so you can adjust your shot accordingly.

Wait !! check out the link

There is a great book for that. And of course, there's trigger time shooting in the wind.

Default Sorry

Sorry I thought that was a pretty funny gag when they did it for April fools a few years ago. My appologies for the derail.

I also use a program called "shooter" on my Android combined with a kestrel. Being as a program output is only as good as the input, my shooting partner does all the calculations longhand on paper. Generally the two methods give us similar results which we then shoot and confirm. Sometimes the computer program is closer, sometime paper is better. The fun for me is working backwards from the actual shot and calculating where the "errors" were in the input process so my output information is more accurate the next time.

Is shooter available for iphone? I’ve looked but didn’t find it. After seeing some of the reviews for AP and the price, I’m going to steer clear for a while.
I have iSnipe for the phone and I think it’s called PointBlank for the computer.

I use Ballistics AE. Obliviously software will only work as well as you put in your shooting weather conditions. Ive had no issue going out to a mile using the app.

I use Strelok too. I sighted my rifle in at 100, then dialed up to 500 according to the numbers and pinged the 4" gong on the first shot.
