First gun

Started my wife on a 7mm-08 (5'-100Ibs) with 140gr reloads. Bottom line is fit, fit & fit again, then select any caliber from .243 up to 7mm in a short action, you wont go wrong. A Ruger compact and she's still using it today.
If interested, I have a Marlin XS7C new in box, 6.5Ibs w/20" barrel, could set you up with a scope.

if she is on the thin or small side take her to Prophet River in Lloyd and let her handle a Howa mini action rifle in 6.5 Grendel. very light rifle, very low recoil good for deer sized critters. check ammo availability where you live, it isn't a 30-06 or 308

And it has several drt elk at about 400 yrds on the Grendel forum. Many think of it as a great deer cartridge and it is, but it steps up to 3rd class game at usual ranges just fine. There’s hundreds and hundreds of recorded kills there, lots of caribou to 400, piles of deer and hogs to 500, few 400lb black bears up to 280, no issues. Like the rest of the 6.5’s, a bit of an over-achiever if looked at from old standards of energy etc.

You can get an mdt lss chassis for the Howa out of b.c. add some ar accessories like a grip and a Magpul ctr buttstock and you have an adjustable fit for anyone. Might be a little tactical for what you’re after but functional and effective.

Where are hundreds and hundreds of 6.5 grendel kills recorded? And of these kill records, are they one shot kills or are these multiple shots required type harvests? Im just curious after reading what you said. I would enjoy looking at this wealth of information that has been "recorded" as you say.

A good sample is there. That’s page 20, not a bad summary on that page. Go back to number one and enjoy. There are lots of kills posted in that section that don’t get recorded in the survey also.

A stock that fits, a good trigger, .243 and 80gr TTSXs. In that order.

Using a .243AI wirh 80gr TTSX for s few years gives me confidence and my daughter has taken deer 4 years in a row with it.

I'd use a 6.5 CM with 100gr pills as well. Also very light recoil.

I would take the young lady over to prophet river and have her try a Weatherby Camilla for fit. It seems to be the first rifle (at least that I'm aware of) which was built and designed specifically by women for women.

And we all know that Weatherby makes an outstanding gun.

There is no better way to welcome her into this sport imo.

I started my small framed 12 yr old daughter on a .243win in a Rem783 compact. She found my 7-08 Howa Alpine to be too much for her and was afraid of it. I think she was reaching too much so that’s why I got the compact stock on the 783. Now she enjoys shooting, and put down a deer this fall.
I was thoroughly impressed with the accuracy of the 783. It saw some miles this past hunting season, and some pretty cold temperatures as well. So far it’s holding up just fine.
