Help me decide
I cant decide on a calibre to get my girlfriend.
i really like my tikka, so im thinking of grabbing a used t3.
she doesnt like my 7mm rem mag, so i have been looking for a 7mm-08 but now i cant decide if a .243 or .308 win would be just as good. theres a lot more .243 and .308 rifles for sale.

What is she going to be using it for mainly? For just deer I would use the .243 but for larger game as well as deer go with the .308
If you know someone who has a .308 you can borrow to let her shoot to see if the recoil is agreeable for her.

Barnes Ttsx come as low as 110 grain in 30 cal. Zip them out around 3200 and youll have a light recoiling flat shooting gun.

decide
While the wife shoots a 243 , does love my 6.5x55 swede .Ive got a 7mm08 and love it but i gotta say 6.5 seems to be a hair less in recoil and will take deer moose black bear with no troubles at all. Its a nice light to me tikka t3 so easy to care all day .

your gf will love that tikka (im the seller you bought it from) i shot some 150's out of it and found the recoil quite manageable. btw when i said it needs an adjustment to the left i meant to the right

I had that same battle this spring. Between 7mm-08 or 308 for wife we decided on 308 and she also got the tikka it was best feel for her. She loves it. U won't regret that decision.

You've made a very good choice.
I started using a .308 after a few years of a 7MM Rem Mag as my primary rifle. It is far more enjoyable to practice with.
Rather than mess around with loads (maybe stereotyping here but guessing she won't want to build her own handloads?) - just put a bipod on it. It improves your accuracy when you're using it and makes the overall setup heavier, which reduces felt recoil.

My 12 year old 65 lb daughter shoots a 7mm 08 and has never complained. Your wife will be fine with a .308
You can always shoot a small 150 gr bullet and kill moose and elk just fine with it. You don't need to max out the powder in it either just to add to less recoil also. She will do fine

Simply put, a 308 will kill anything you can eat ... as well as anything that can eat you!

If you reload, I would recommend the 130 TTSX for a light recoiling bullet in the 308. Never have to change for any game you can get her a tag for.

Good choice. If you don't reload, there are choices available in managed / reduced recoil ammo for the 308.
I picked up a Cooey in 308 from a fellow AO member and my 14 year old daughter can shoot it fine.

Just curious, are the mentioned younger/smaller shooters doing fine on full size rifles or are they using compact models?

If just a deer rifle and recoil is a concern my vote is for .243.
