Default Back from Fortress

Well, Littlebuckgonefishin and I finally made it to Fortress Lake this past weekend and what a trip. The fishing was exactly like all the hype made it out to be and more. We got there at around noon on Friday and fished until noon on Monday and manage about 110 - 120 fish between the two of us, ranging from 2 - 8lbs.

If you ever get the opportunity to go, I highly reccomend it.

I hope this works.

Two thumbs up lad !

Very nice in there, eh !

Which way/how did you go in ?

Best way out is to raft from where the Chaba & Sask join ! Right to the HWY at a parking lot.....20-30 foot walk to your truck !

Amazingly well done! Thanks for sharing. Glad to see that LittleBuck made it back home OK. Did he run into Dadof3Bartas by any chance?

Awesome!

Looks like a great trip. Lots of variety in the brook trout.

Where is Fortress Lake, is that near Fortress Ski resort in Kanaskisis?

Yeah, he's made it through ok so far, but this was just his leave, he goes back on Saturday for 2 more months. No, he said he didn't run into any AO members as of yet.

It's in Hamber Provincial park in BC, just on the other side of Jasper. You can either fly in from Hinton (45 minute flight, but pricey), or hike in from the Sunwapta Falls (26km).

Thanks, I just mapped it out in google earth.

Were those brook trout stoked from the Nipigon system many many years ago, or are they native?

Yeah, they're the Nipigon 'coaster' strain. Stocked way back in the day.

Beautiful fish and scenery pics. A couple of questions:
What's a flight in there cost?
Did you bring a boat or was it some kind of rental?

That looks like something I would enjoy!

Gonefishin, thanks for slideshow! It's good to see that the fish haven't gotten any smaller. I got to get back in there again sometime soon. Guys, check out their website http://www.fortresslake.com/

Thanks, that was only a few. We had camera issues and about 200 of the pics didn't turn out. There were some good ones.

The last time Brook trout were stocked in Fortress lake was in the 1930's and has not been since then.

yep, thats true thay have managed to sustain themselves. "Almost native" the area is simply talor made for big brookies, their life span is only 5 years around which time their colors start to fade. Most of the big ones are near their end but imagine if you could add another 5+ years WOW!!!
