Default What should we do?

I work at a Calgary area golf course where we have rainbow trout in nearly every pond. About 5 days ago we noticed we have 100+ of the suckers in the photo (hopefully the photos work). Not sure where these came from. This pond was not affected by any flooding. The fish are all about the same size and look to be spawning on the gravel beds. There is no in flow from the river but the ponds are almost all connected and I am worried about our rainbow population. I called f&w but did not get much help. Any body have any ideas?

Get a compound bow, a spool of fishing line and some nice broad heads. Affix spool of line to bow, attach end of line to arrow, shoot fish

Perfectly legal, and one of the kids that mows the lawn can have a fun day at work.

Don't use broad heads, a fish pint works much better.

Cool bait fish .

Leave them alone they are a soft rayed bait fish the trout will eat them . If they get out of hand net each lake .

Hopefully the pics work now. They're not real easy to catch so far. Some members have said they've seen them in 3 other ponds so far.

They're suckers, they keep the ponds clean. Stick with the 9 iron.

If anybody has experience with dealing with this type of infestation or actually wants to eat them pm me and we can work out a time to try and get these things outta there.

Why get rid of them? If they provide food for the rainbows and keep thigs clean they may be beneficial????

Our rainbows are pretty big but they can't eat 3 pound suckers. The f&w biologist told be they will eventually take over.

LOL.....Yeah, they probably will. The biologist couldn't offer any advice on how to deal with them?

You could contact a local Archery club for a fish out, provide hot dogs etc.

Net them when their spawning, probably never get them all it will help reduce the numbers to a controllable level. Maybe stocking some browns will help too.

You are probably going to have to net em out , I don't mean a gill net, but a fish trap would work then you could destroy what you don't want.
