Default Truck tire recomendations

Ok, so I was in Kal-tire today to price out replacement tires for the Duramax. I've been running Nokian Vatiiva's for the past few years and while they handle great in dry and ice conditions the wear was premature (FWIW I run Nokians on the wife's vehicle as I think their year round performance is second to none).
Nokian replaced the poor wearing Vatiiva's with the new Rotiiva, but when I seen the cost of these new replacements I dropped the biggest f-bomb! Almost $50 more per tire then the old model. So needless to say Kal-tire lost my business.
Can anyone suggest another light truck tire that can compete with Nokian for ALL WEATHER use (not just an All season)?

I understand Hercules tires (subsidiary of Cooper tires) produces tires with silane (purified silica) for good ice traction. Any comments?

Look at the general grabber at2. I got over 35,000 on mine and half left, this is on a f350 diesel. Winter traction was excellent. Wait for the sales at crappy tire, buy one get one half price

Default kal

kal tire talked me into Cooper/Tempra Trail Cutters on my Chev 2500HD.

I cant wait to get them off, at speeds > 100 km/h I feel like they are going flat.

On gravel, they sway all over the road.

Another Toyo fan, ran them on my mini van, Suv to the 1 ton. Great traction and wear. Toyo Open Country plus 4 is what my 1 ton has. Not the cheapest.

General Grabber A/T is on sale at Canadian tire, a very very good tire.
Motomaster Total Terrain A/T2 is unexpectedly, surprisingly an excellent tire from Canadian tire.
Goodyear dura trac.

I would go with moto master for this the jewel in all the garbage that Canadian tire is popular for.

Yes my buddy put on Toyo open country and likes them but he got'em in the U.S. at cheaper pricing. I'm not looking for a mudder or heavy lug as I'm mainly on pavement towing. Having said that I do plenty of gravel and fields during hunting season with some bombing down hard rock roads on the FTR south east of Calgary and over the passes into the Castle River drainage south of the Crowsnest in search of trout during the summer and fall.

Interesting that the Wild Country XTX Sport carries the same RMA severe snow symbol as Nokian Vatiiva and Rotiiva's. Relatively inexpensive at Kal-tire too - just wonder how durable and how they wear especially with heavy towing.

Look in the states. Its a bit of a drive for you but tires are way cheaper and I know les schwab can get nokian tires. I price out the nokian haakapelita's and they were about $85 less per tire

Tried a set of toyo open country and was less than impressed with the wear. Have gone back to the toyo m-55 now. Not quite as good of traction but they last almost twice as long.

I have been running the goodyear wrangler territory (from cdn tire) for a couple of years now and they are great. They come on sale very often so end up being a very good price. They are a winter rated tire and I run them year round. I previously run michelin ice tires in the winter and I find these goodyears perform even better than them. They look fairly aggressive but do not notice much road noise on the highway with them. They are also great in mud. I use to run toyo m55's but the price of them and the fact that I was wrecking them all the time made me switch. I have used these ever since and have never had a problem with them

I just picked up a set of the territorys for my duramax couldn't believe the price 230$ a tire for 275 70 R18 can't beat that and had great reviews. I have duratracs on my work truck and the only reason there on there is cause I don't pay for tires.

Not sure if fox creek is to far but I'm almost positive Integra tire would be cheaper than $359. 35x12.5R17 are only $359 installed there.

Default BFG's

I see no mention of BFG / AT's and I imagine for a good reason. Had a set of 305/65/18 on my diesel F250 crewcab and they didn't last 20,000 kms. And I don't mean a little worn out after 20K I mean wire showing. The old ones were great, not so much the new ones. Trying out the goodyears now 235/65/18 and so far so good. If I recall, pricing was close.

BFG's are JUNK!!! I suggest the Goodyear Duratracs. I am really happy with them so far and about half of my friends have them on their vehicles and like them as well.

I can only speak for what I am using, but we are running Cooper Discoverer AT3's on our Xterra and have so far been awesome! They are great off road as well as on road and through snow and ice. Not sure about treadwear as I've only had them on for about 15k, but they seem to be holding up quite well and ill be putting them on my Ram hopefully this summer.

Looks like the Goodyear Wrangler Territory review well but at the price of $280 per tire for 265/75 r16's they are as expensive as the Rotiiva's.

Any comment on the Hankook Dynapro AT-m - they are also priced at that same price point.

Quite frankly, I'm leaning towards trying the Hercules Terra Trac A/T LT265/75R16/E 123/120Q for $219/tire. From what I've read they are quiet and have much better than average ice traction - apparently they are made by Cooper tires.

Geolanders are a pretty good tire, wear quite well in my experience (gravel/highway mix).
